..Alexander did. He took a Greek army to the far Indus...
>>
>>1888296
They didn't conquer Sparta because they weren't worth the effort. Sparta was a joke by then and was a shadow holding onto the past.

Alexander did. He took a Greek army to the far Indus. There was nothing left to conquer.

And now Greeks live in Evil Days.

But they did conquer Sparta. Sparta first fell under their hegemony. Then when Alexander left, Sparta revolted. The Macedonian general, Antipater, led an army down and crushed them. Sparta was then forced to join the League of Corinth, which solidified their role as a vassal state.

No, wrong. They did not conquer Sparta and Sparta did not revolt. What they did was subjugate every Greek city state through politics and warfare under the ostensible reason of protecting them from Sparta. The policy of isolating Sparta from the rest of the greeks was intentional, since everyone else hated Sparta.

Athen had a strong anti-macedonian party which were thrown out after Chaeronea. Thebes was always anti-macedonian and revolted twice - the second time it was burnt to the ground.

During the Asia Minor campaign Alexander sent a tribute of persian treasure to Athens as PR stunt. The ostensible intention was to show that Alexander, ruler of all the greeks, was leading them on an anti-persian campaign of vengaence for the burning of the Acropolis 150 years prior. In the note sent along with the treasure he did however note that this tribute came from "Alexander, and all of the greeks except for the Spartans". Ergo; "You're not invited to my Persian crusade, Sparta"

Ps. the Macedonians DID beat the Spartans in battle, however, but it was not a revolt since Sparta was not under Macedonian rule at that time. Alexander referred to this battle as "a battle of ants".
>>
>>1888380
>>1888384

Then it depends on how you define "conquer". They were defeated in battle and were at the mercy of Alexander. Alexander granted them nominal political independence.
>>
There wasn't enough of them

The free men of Greece have turned upon each other, instead of our proper enemies.
>>
>>1888425

Alexander did never meet the Spartans in battle.
Antipater did, but that was after Alexander had left for Persia.
>>
>>1888522

They were at Alexander's mercy in that he decided their fate after Antipater won.
>>
>>1888529

Yes, but prior to that battle there had been no military conflict between the two. However after that battle they were never relevant again, except as the losing side fighting against the Aetolians a century later.
>>
>>1888296
Thebes was twice the Sparta, Sparta ever was. And Macedonia was at least three times the Thebes that Thebes ever was
