Not the best, his pro-byzantine bias is famous. But other than that, I found it a nice read.

I remember reading reviews of his History of the crusades in the french amazon site and one of the reviews said the book was too chauvinistic. A french thinking something is too chauvinistic.

Other than that they liked it.
