that Ancient Mayan mathematics and science was more advanced than Ancient Greece?
Yes
Didn't they come up with the concept of 0 before everyone else?
>>1885420
Even Ancient Egyptians used zero.
No, they might of been good at engineering and architecture, and things like astronomial calculation which is much more practical math
in terms of pure mathematics, no they were not anywhere near Greece who developed geometry, the concept of proofs and the first deductive axiomatic system
anyone that says the Mayans were "superior" to Greece in this regard are simply not historians of mathematics or science
>>1885413
Euclid alone should top them.
>>1885440
Greeks didnt though
>>1885453
exactly Euclid, alone, had a bigger influence on mathematics than all of Mayan History
This is not to degrade the Mayans, who i mentioned are excellent practical thinkers
The Mayans were like Rome in that they were much more about applied stuff than pure thought/theoretical

The question is itself flawed because your comparing apples to oranges here. Classical Greece developed with the benefit of exchange of ideas and human development by other civilizations prior to theirs from other parts of Europe to Asia and Africa (Ancient Egypt especially had a strong influence) for thousands of years. The classical Maya developed with, outside of Mesoamerica little influence from other people. Had their been horses exchange of ideas would probably have been much more rapid and their development more advanced than it was. That said, the Maya were more concerned with calculating time/dates and astronomy, They used a base 20 system which included zero, rather than the decimal many use today. Their calculations by observing carefully movements of stars had dates far in the past and far in the future (one recorded date goes as high as Sextillion years from now).
Pic related shows a Maya scribe teaching pupils about numbers and correct spelling.

Neither did Romans, and I can't grasp my head around how you can not use Zero in your mathematical system
again Euclid had a greater influence on the history of math than all of Mayan history
That one Ancient Greek mathematician, literally calculated actual size of the Earth with like 99% accuracy. I doubt that Mayas were on the same level. They were arguably better with dating, but there is nothing else really going for them sadly.
