Why does nobody every talk about the Eastern Front in WWI?

The front ended because Russia had a couple revolutions and the government backed out
But all the gains Germany made as a result were overruled when they lost in the West

You know, I've seen month by month fore breakdown across fronts for Germany in WW2. That in, for example, September of 1943, they had X divisions in France and Y divisions in Italy and Z divisions in the USSR.


I've never seen anything comparable for Germany's force commitment in WW1. I've never been entirely sure as to how much of their forces were split between France and Russia in say, 1915 and 1916. Does anyone have any pertinent information?

In a more specific sense, I think it has to do with the fact that immediately after the disengagement of Russia from WWI, most Russian soldiers found themselves fighting and dying for another 5 years in the subsequent internal conflict between the Red and White armies.

Not only did this conflict overshadow WWI in a sense, it also wiped out most veterans of WWI. Once the Bolsheviks won, any Whites were either killed or ostracized to prison colonies in Siberia, where they would likely be killed by starvation. The Reds who survived were also likely to be later imprisoned or executed in the power struggles following Lenin's death, or during the military purge of the 30's.

Whereas we in the West had numerous first-hand accounts of the war readily available to us, the veterans of the Eastern front were largely gone by the beginning of the Second World War.
