Roman legions were already on the extreme limits of their supplies out in Britain. The Conquest of Britain itself was sort of tugging at a loose thread.

They conquered Gaul, and wanted that, but the northern coast was subject to the deprivations of British Pirates. So they conquered Britain to secure Gaul. Britain was never worth conquering someplace even further away in order to protect.

It's really not that much of a mystery, any more than why the Romans didn't want to invade past the Atlas or Carpathian mountains.
