Watch Girls und Panzer and Kantai Collection, they're surprisingly historically accurate.

The battle of Midway is the most strikingly accurate event retold in KanColle. Not as accurate as Strike Witches, though.

Currently reading pic related. Definitely one of the better ww2 books i'v read. I'd recommend it to anyone wanting to know more about the eastern front.

I also recommend Rokossovsky's memories, A Soldier's Duty. Best book about the Eastern Front in my opinion.

Ian W. Toll has written two books on the Pacific, with a third on the way. I believe they are called Pacific Crucible and Conquering Tide. They're both excellent, so far going through 1941-1944 in detail. There's lots about aerial fighting doctrine, training, naval ships and challenges that had to be overcome in there.
