Simple:
1) I Ching. The Book of Changes. Shit predated Confucianism/Taoism/Any Philosophy in China. But got heavily associated with Taoism.
2) Folk Syncretism. Folk Confucianism and Folk Buddhism became diefied religions with "gods" and the like. Folk Taoism went the deep end due to it's metaphysical roots in Actual Taoism. All that notions about existence led to the talk of manipulation of the elements, and from that, popular notions of Hermits with Magical Medicine, raising the dead, and doing magic shit.

Not to mention the obsession of Folk Taoists with Feng Shui.
