At the end of the day, in private, speak to God. Out loud. Talk to him as a friend into a friend. Consider what you have done that day. If you err'd, talk about it. Talk about how feel. If you feel guilty, sat so. If you do not feel guilty despite knowing it is wrong, say so. If you don't understand why it is a sin, or don't believe it should be sin, or that it doesn't matter, voice your concerns out loud, but know that you are arguing from an incorrect position.

The psychological effect of physically communing with God out loud is very powerful, and will cement in your mind God as a real, tangible being that you can come to when you are in need. After enough of these conversations, I promise, you will come to new understanding. By speaking your sins out loud, you are acknowledging that they are real. If you continue with the same excuses, eventually you will find a logic that beats them. God will give it to you. If God is too distant a concept, speak to Jesus. He is our advocate and intermediary. But it is important to actually do it. It will be weird at first, but after a while it will really help you get past these temptations, because you will get tired of giving a bad report every night. Trust me, it works.

No matter how disciplined you are, sometimes you need a prop. For me it's working outside, weeding the garden, chopping wood, or reading -- not necessarily the Bible. When I get upset about something I find Tolkien's prose soothes more more than anything else.
