Has there been any nations (or are there any today) notorious for revising history to suit their own agenda/present history in a certain way?

I'm just curious if there's anywhere that has deliberately mislead it's people when speaking about the history of the world or their country.

I used to have a chinese co-worker, immigrated when she was oh about 19 or so, never got the full story.

And just stuff that would come up concerning Chinese history, and she would be absolutely stunned to find out that things like Wikipedia, let alone real scholarly sources, don't parrot what they taught her in schools.
