I used to have a chinese co-worker, immigrated when she was oh about 19 or so, never got the full story.
And just stuff that would come up concerning Chinese history, and she would be absolutely stunned to find out that things like Wikipedia, let alone real scholarly sources, don't parrot what they taught her in schools.
