What can /his/ tell me about the first and second Congo Wars? What factions were involved, what were they fighting for, what were geopolitical reasons for war breaking out?
Sorry if this is against the 25 year rule but this is pretty much the only place I can post this besides /b/, as I doubt this thread would do very well on /pol/.
Firstly I recommend buying the book Dancing in the Glory of Monsters for an in depth assessment.
The Rwandan Genocide between the Hutus v Tutsi and Tutsi sympathisers ended with the Tutsis victories and Paul Kagame's government taking over the country. The genocidaires fled to just over the border in Mobutu's Congo. This freaked Kagame out who threatened Mobutu with war if he did not stop harbouring the genocidaires.
The old dictator refused and so an insurrection was created by Rwanda in conjunction with a proper and successful invasion.
Fucking read a book or something jesus christ.

It was more or less the Rwanda-supported militias versus the locals. The US started giving Rwanda lots of guns in the 90s, blocked UN investigations into the Rwandan genocide, and funded the war to spill over into the Congo. The second congo war was more of a true civil war where external powers were less involved.
