Why are samurai so cool?
"If a man does not investigate into the matter of Bushido daily, it will be difficult for him to die a brave and manly death. Thus, it is essential to engrave this business of the warrior into one's mind well."

They had a purpose in life, and you have none.
Because they've been romanticized and fantacized.
Because they are intelligent, nihilistic with a wicked sense of humor
>>1861661
Darn terrible image, besides, why the hell would you wield a stick when you have your daisho at your belt...
Also, peace-time romanticism and nationalism is a hell of a drug.
Because you don't know much about Japan so you idolize it.
Japan glorified its traditional culture and invested a lot in the arts. We are seeing something similar in China with Sinoboos jacking off over cao cao and such just because they played the video game.

>Cao Cao worships
Thats historical thing though.
Samurai are shit and any real warrior would rip them to small pieces with his bare hands.

Musashi wanted to show off his skill so he fought with an oar, still broke his opponent skull
>>1863425
The turn of the whole thing is that he hadn't brought his blades so that he could make a longer than usual weapon to counter Kojiro's odachi, but in the picture Musashi has his daisho, so why would Kojiro even accept to fight a guy with an oar when he has his blades on him...
Nothing against Japan, but I never understood why they get so hyped up when there's superior Asian warriors in history. The Ottomans, Mughals, Gurkhas, Sikhs, Afghans, Mongols, Manchus, and countless other groups have a better history of warfare and martial culture than samurai. The only time Japan ever amounted to anything in Asian regional history was when they adapted the arquebus (even produced more guns than all of Europe by the 1590's), but even that didn't allow them to conquer Korea. And their naval/maritime history is a joke before the Modernization period.

It's probably because since the 16th century the europeans kinda admired the japanese. Even in the 19th century, they were very impressed by their culture and martial culture in particular. And then Japan was one of the few eastern country which westernized itself extremely fast, they were kinda equal to the europeans by that time (beating another european country), being part of international organizations...
Meanwhile, all the other cultures that you quoted were either straight enemies (ottomans) or people whom the europeans straight invaded (india, china) so there wasn't really anything about glorifying their warriors. Since Japan is suppose to be the new big thing during the 19th century, it's the "normal" thing to find awesome stuff in their history and to glorify it as "heh they were kinda like us so it's logical they were able to become more western and stuff".
Essentially, it has much more to do with 19th and 20th century colonialism and the western racial ideas than anything actually done by Japan. Japan was the "good" example for the europeans.
