What is the source of all evil in the world? Greed? Sadism? Lust for power? Supernatural entities?
Selfishness.

Law.
Law absolves one of having responsibility. It cares not whether one is of strong heart or good morals, but whether one obeys the law for fear of punishment.

Evil is a pathway for one, if you walk down the path that's when the physical qualities come to fruition through the desires. That's how we can physically see it in action. From there you can discern the variables of lusts and unbridled appetites and the harm/potential harm it causes others.
As for the source, it's emptiness. It's a darkness that has no wisdom. It's Godless therefore destructive. If it has nothing to eat, it would eat itself. It's a "voidness." If given anything, if you fed it anything, it would more than likely treat whatever you gave it with contempt and oppression. You give it nothing, it would again, find contempt against itself. Attempt to destroy its own, even if that own, is itself. Suicide is a prime example. What goes on in the head of a suicide case? A person, who listens to the case being presented that they are worthless and without value, to the point the individual believes the need to destroy himself. Meanwhile, it was all a lie, meanwhile, they were loved the whole time. But by knowing evil, you're exposed to it's nature.
1 Peter 5:8 compares the destructive force to a lion and the need to be ever sober and vigilant of evil.
When you give it something to contrast with, like good, you can discern it's qualities though.
