Is this the most important continent in the history of mankind?
>>
>>1854943
yep
>>
>>1854943
without a doubt
>>
>>1854943
If Europe gets to be a continent, than so does the middle east. If so, than it's kind of a tough one. Except for Egypt, nothing came close to it from 4k BC up until Augustus took the west. That's a long fuckin time.
Clearly Greco-Roman and Germanic culture dominated since then, but very much on the back of 4k years of Persian, Assyrian, Babylonian etc civilization.
>>
>>1854960
Persian, Arab, and Turkish civ continued to be just as if not more advanced up until the Monghols. It's far more impressive given the fact that these three successfully united many ancient relatively powerful warring ethnic groups

No Asia is because without Asia primates WOULD NEVER EVER EXIST.

Europe is a close second
>>
Undoubtedly, yes it is.
>>
>>1855226
this actually

Its most imporant now because it was the most important part of the world past few hundred years, but with globalization, this is shifting, and as much as i would like to, we can't say its most important just because of few hundred years on the sun.
>>
>>1855226
This.
>Where complex writing was first invented
>Where agriculture was first independently invented (3 times no less)
>Where the concept of civilization was first invented
>Where the first great empires of the world arose
>Housed the most civilizations for the first 3000+ years of human history
>Where all the great religions of history hale from
>Where the wheel was first used for transportation
History literally wouldn't exist without this one. Europe's very important with respect to the modern day situation, but Asia's been important for much longer amount of time.
>>
>>1854943
Africa. Our birth place as a species after all.
>>
>>1855827
HAHA lol

the county of Yorkshire has had a bigger influence than that shit continent
>>
>>1854943
>Most important continent in history
Not talking about Atlantis
>>
>>1855226

Except Asia has always been a pisshole. Japan is worth more than all of Asia put together from a cultural perspective.
>>
>>1855832
ok
>>
>>1854943
Definitely, although, the Cradle of European civilization is in the Middle East.

I don't wanna be a faggy eurocentrist but yeah

europeans ended up populating 3 other continents
>>

go to sleep tyrone
>>
>>1855868

Lol what? Japan copied chinese inventions and customs all the time in the past
>>
>>1856135

And nowadays they are starting to be a minority in their own countries. So much for colonialism.
>>
>>1855868
From a cultural perspective Japan has been quite worthless compared to China, India or any middle eastern place

I know this is 4chan and all, but come the fuck on. Might as well mention Singapore next time.
>>
>>1854943
>Europe
>Continent

Eur-Asia-Africa sure is the most important one.
Pangea is a lot more dope though
Europe or Asia since their the only ones who knew how to write shit down
>>
>>1854943
The Middle East is more important IMO
>3 of the major religions come from there
>First civilisations
>Numerical system
>Cultural icons like Ancient Egypt and Babylon
>>
>>1856236
Europe and Asia are one continent, sure, but c'mon now, Africa's separate.
>>
>>1855868
lol, Yemen's been on the map longer than those fucks

>If Europe gets to be a continent, than so does the middle east.
I don't see anything wrong with that.

>Middle East

> Continent

You can tell when the Americans start posting.
>>
>>1856311

>>1856314 and modern geological consensus seem to.
>>
>>1856328
Continental boundaries should not be determined exclusively by geography. They should be if people were referring to geography most of the time when speaking about continents, but that's just not true, they're usually referring to race.
>>
>>1856314
Geographical continents are bullshit when talking about history. Historically, East Asia and the Middle East are so, so far apart that lumping them into one category is absurd.
>>
>>1854943
Asia is more important as a whole, but it's also a lot bigger. If you divide Asia into Europe sized regions (Middle East, South Asia, East Asia, etc.) Europe is probably more influential than each of them, though only narrowly
>>
>>1856275
You can walk from Europe to Afrika, that is not sepperate
>>
>>1856370
Continent is a geographic term. It does not mean race. In no reputable definition of the term will you find mention of race or culture. Just because you like using the term incorrectly doesn't mean that's the way it technically is. If you want to start talking about race and culture, then use terms that denote those things like country or cultural area.
>>
>>1856464
Except Europe as a continent basically only exists because of that. You cannot seriously say that Europe exists as a geographical concept just because of the Ural mountains, as if anybody in most of Europe gives a fuck about them. It was obviously a way to separate one race from others on maps. India has more of a claim to being a continent than Europe does, going by those standards, considering they're separated from China by the Himalayas.
>>
>>1856221
what goes around comes around
>>
>>1856513
>Except Europe as a continent basically only exists because of that.
Yes, because the people who invented the term wanted it to be that way. Funnily enough though, the definitions of terms change. The guys who created the classifications for planets used to think that the moon and sun were ones. As more research was done and a greater consensus was formed, we now no longer consider them as such. At this moment, Continent is a very scientific term. Laymen treating it otherwise doesn't prove anything other than the apparent fact that they have the education and views of Laymen.
>>
>>1855868
Are you fucking kidding me? Persia, India, and China were bastions of culture while Japan was still feuding tribes of fishermen and hunters. It was only recently in the past 150 years that Japan was worth merit.
>>
>>1856567
Ultimately, laymen are what define these things. Nobody refers to Arabs as Asians, nobody refers to Indians as Asians, people already have a preconceived archetype of what an "Asian" looks like in their head. You can either argue with it based on academic hubris or accept that while your definition is more scientific, the other is more practical to the average person.
>>
>>1856612
>Ultimately, laymen are what define these things
No they aren't. There's a reason we look at what historians write down to determine exactly the events of history instead of shit like the Pompeii graffiti walls.
>Nobody refers to Arabs as Asians, nobody refers to Indians as Asians, people already have a preconceived archetype of what an "Asian" looks like in their head.
And good for them. That doesn't mean that those views need to carry over into technical historical discussion. Something being more practical to the average person means it should stay in the realm of the average person. When we're having real historical discussions, we should encourage the use of technical terms. If we don't, then we lose the standards of what "good history" is versus "bad history."

>Implying anything relevant ever happened in Africa, besides Ancient Egyptian civilization.
>>
>>1856771
Northern Africa is pretty important but the rest,
you know how that story goes
>>
In the history of mankind up to now ? Yes.
But that won't last.
>>
>>1857156
>population=importance
>>
>>1855226
without this, europe would have no civilization.

remember that europe and australia are the only continents where modern agricultural civilization was introduced. they couldn't figure it out themselves.
>>
>>1857170
But that's not implied you idiot.
Population is just one of the main factors.

And what was possible when europe was 20% of the world population won't be possible when it will be 5%.
>>
>>1854943
yes
>>
>>1857156
that doesn't mean shit if you can't feed your people
