Reminder that English has been the lingua franca since the 50s, thank to a country that left the British "empire" before it even started after Britain lost a war to peasants helped by France
>>1851013
Reminder America speaks English thanks originally to the British Empire.

Dude let's count all the frozen forests and empty deserts we never had any control over as part of our empire. That will make us number 1 at something!
>>1851033
Yeah, the achievement of having kicked backward natives from what is the current US East Coast and populated the place with Anglos is yours
But the achievement of having made the world speak English isnt

Reminder that English has been the International language of business since the 19th century, and the British empire was the largest and most wealthy of all time. Reminder that the British empire was at it's zenith after the American revolution.
>>1851065
You're literally missing the point of Empire if you're trivializing the accumulation of land and riches. That's the whole point of Empires. The British empire spawned the only truly successful European colonies and that failed country called America.
>>1851079
America couldn't even beat the Vietnamese and now some towelheads in the desert. At least the Brits HAD a golden age.

As an Hittite/Minoanboo I feel triggered that you didn't include the Hittite and Minoan empires to your list.
>>1850704
Byzantine Empire should be higher and the Swedish should be lower, it's too inferior to be compared to any of those in the "OK" tier.
>>1851091
Russia and the Caliphates should be in mid tier, while the Dutch Republic and Aztec Empire should be somewhere lower.

Achaemenid was not only the first superpower, but is the largest empire in history by population size which matters the most
Sassanid's and Parthians were also the only ones who kept Rome on a leash
Shit list
>>1852354
Sassanids yes, Parthians, not so much. Though I agree the latter is criminally underrated.
>>1852354
I too find that everyone forgets about history's first real superpower, the Achaemenids.
Like China and Rome I rank them at the top.
These three remained "alive" longer than any other and influenced everything they bordered. China and Persia are still around today and even if Rome fell it was the inspiration and sometimes an direct goal of other empires such as the Spanish, French and Ottoman.
Every other empire except for a select few are only copies or based on the systems they created, (Mongol, Japanese, Mughal, Caliphate, Colonial)
>>1852372
Parthia btfo Rome hard enough during the late republic that they convinced Augustus that Rome should never expand beyond what it had. And Rome never managed to decisively beat them
