Think about it: Christianity had pretty much nothing to offer in this day and age. Nobody cares about most of the old commandments anymore, the Church structures have no real influence left, the traditional Christian communities broke up. Most people don't get a lot of spirituality out of the ritual and don't feel the Bible really speaks to them. For the past few decades it looked like all that was left of modern Christianity was muh abortions and muh gay marriage is a sin. Also something about the nuclear family which is not even in the Bible. Not really worth to have a church for tbqh.
Pope Francis is instead focusing on grace/works, which were a central part of Jesus' teachings: empathizing with the least fortunate, helping the poor out, loving your neighbor etc. These ideas can have a place today and might just make the church stay relevant.

>These ideas can have a place today and might just make the church stay relevant.
Except it won't, because all the virtue-signalling fags praising Pope Francis as "the best pope in like, forever!" still aren't going to turn up to church, or convert to the Catholic faith.
You would've thought Catholics might've learned something from the collapse of the mainline Protestant churches in the US, but apparently not
>>1847670
They don't give a shit about Protestants and the US, generally about heretics.

>This guy is saving Christianity
Only if he sends all conservative Catholics to Orthodoxy and keeps all the liberals, faggots and lukewarm Christians that don't go to church anyway.

You make a good point
Catholicism just doesn't appeal to younger people anymore. I should know, I was once a Catholic
What Pope Francis is doing is essentially a liberalization of the catholic church, making it more appealing and more soft
It's pretty much in line with the teachings of Jesus- love thy neighbor as thyself

>First Great Awakening
You faggots, tuning down the "you will go to fucking hell and there's nothing you can do about it because God already decided his plan!" won't save the church
>Second Great Awakening
You faggots, tuning down the "you will go to fucking hell unless you repent right god damn now" won't save the church

Why men are loving Orthodoxy

>The Orthodox Church Stays in the Dark Ages
>Pope Francis' enormous popularity -- his Twitter accounts in different languages have a total of about 30 million followers, about as many as Bill Gates and more than Adele -- is a consequence of his openness to diversity and a softer approach to dogma. He represents a modernized Catholic Church. By contrast, the world's second biggest Christian denomination is proving so resistant to modernization that its plans to adopt some timid changes for the first time since the year 787 have fallen through.

>Imagine for a moment that we conducted science the way we conduct theology. Every week, we gather at the lecture-hall of one prominent scientist or other who gives a talk on his theories and is supported by donations from attendees. Anything that’s too counterintuitive or has too much math would meet with empty pews. Forget quantum mechanics, I don’t think we’d even have moved past geocentrism!
spoken like someone who never took a science or math class

did you even read your own post?

If all he did was *refocus on core Christian values, how does Christianity have nothing to offer?

That's awesome.
