Joseph Smith and some of his family members were Freemasons, i.e. what would be blasphemers, in direct opposition to the Bible in several ways.
The book of Mormon contains enough problems that some of the Mormon church's founders deserted. It was founded upon some blind leaps of faith without works, its origin point is one subjective religious experience, and it contains plagiarisms and contradictions of the Bible. In addition to polygamy, original Mormons also practiced polyandry and blood atonement.
Worth noting is that Mormons were pretty much universally hated in their early years, and virtually everyone aside from the Mormons themselves ( and even some of them) thought Smith was a sleazy con man. It was essentially the Scientology of its time

Oh thank the gods...
I should point out that the moral of this episode, however, is that while Mormons are kookie as fuck, they are still largely a happy people. ...or at least, happy robots.
