For its time Britain but in today's money the USA.
>>
If the US suddenly went full nazi or mongol it could probably conquer the entire world.
>>
>>1837673
Obviously the US
They're currently a real superpower (unlike the British Empire) and unchallenged in power

The British Empire at its height was a paper tiger that struggled against lone Germany while being helped by France and Russia, two great powers
If WW1 showed us one thing, it's that owning a lot of shitholes all over the world isnt enough to qualify as "superpower"
>>
>>1837695
>unchallenged
Lmao. Russia and China have been challenging you a lot. At its height the British empire was unchallenged.
>>
>>1837673
USA, as we still haven't really seen the peak of its power.

Even at the peak of British dominance at the turn of the century the USA already had an industry that outclassed the British industry.

Yes, the British controlled more land than the USA but the USA overall controls more developed land than Britain did at their peak.

It should also be noted that the US dollar at peak value has been worth more than the British Pound ever was, especially when considering that the US dollar is more so an international currency than the British Pound ever was. If anything it would be better to compare US currency to Spanish currency.

Finally, the USA has a larger professional military force than the British empire ever held.

All in all the USA in its current form is more powerful than the UK at its peak
>>
>>1837733
Your peak was in the 1950's. It has been downhill ever since.
>>
>>1837732
>Russia and China have been challenging you a lot
China will challenge them soon, Russia is a dead corpse pushing above its weight

>At its height the British empire was unchallenged
By the shitholes it ruled over? Sure.
But it had like zero power in Europe, and as soon as it tried to impose its will there (WW1) it was faced with a stronger enemy and struggled for 4 years to defeat it while being carried by France and greatly helped by Russia and, at the end, America
>>
>>1837742
>Only superpower in existence.
> Only currency other than gold that can be used on the world market to buy oil.
> Largest professional army with most advanced equipment.
> Largest educated populace

The masses in every country are idiots. Compared to the rest of the world (excluding most of Europe) the Americans are a super educated nation.
>>

Oh yeah, I forgot that everyone hates each other and will pretty much say anything to get a dig in on people. Regardless of its relevancy to the facts. Most humans are bad at geography, mostly because it's pretty irrelevant to every day life. Get over it.

>>
>>1837844
>countries vs internal subdivisions

Yeah, nah
The correct comparison is locating the countries of the American continent (yeah, it's one continent) from Canada to Chile.
>>
>>1837850
Because American states have far more internal autonomy than European provinces. Essentially every state has home rule, and the Federal government just oversees interstate commerce and foreign policy.

It's a bit more complex than that, but Texas (for example) governs itself in a completely different way than California with a different code of laws.

American education is dog shit by first world standards
>>
>>1837905
Of course it is, considering that half of US schools are shitty charter schools with poor regulations and the other half are state-run public institutions with wildly different interpretations of an "education standard".

Compared to nations with federal school systems that have multiple layers of oversight it's no wonder the US public education system is so terrible. But that's more of a reflection on a corrupted system that has yet to be confronted than a reflection on "stupid" people. Not to mention teacher's unions make some terrible teachers that are absolutely toxic to the education system impossible to fire (unless they murder or molest a kid that is).

The US education system is a broken mess compared to other nations only because of how unorthodox and overly complex it is, if the USA streamlined the system it would probably catch up to the international frontrunners in less than a generation. Unfortunately, there are too many powerful interest groups and individuals in the way who simply see education as a business for that to happen, so US children suffer as a result. If anything will cause the USA to decline it's this above all else. Not foreign powers, not national debt, not military shortcomings, this.

An uneducated populace is the death of any empire, and the USA will learn this the hard way if the education system isn't repaired soon.
>>
>>1837874

For an American, knowing the states is a perfect analogy to learning the nations for a European.

> (yeah, it's one continent)

Spotted the non-Anglo.

The British Empire was always a "first among equals" type deal, and were limited by overextention and their anemic army. They didn't completely dominate world affairs like thebpost-Cold War USA does. That's why they needed huge alliances of near peak powers whenever France, Germany, or someone else got uppity.

As a proportion compared with their competitors, the US was absolutely dominant 1945-1949 and again for a couple decades after the dissolution of the CCCP.

The US is stronger in ways that are literally impossible for the Empire, and has no real competitors.

There are almost 39 million Blacks (more people than Poland) and over 50 million Hispanics (more than South Korea) in the U.S. and they each are essentially separate “nations” within the U.S., even more so today due to "race politics".

To only look as statistics for the U.S. as a whole, is to ignore the trees for the forest.

Top kek, the British were a paper tiger, as proven in WW1 and WW2 where they were dependent on their European and American allies.
>>
>>1837673

How is this even a question? How many nuclear bombs did the british have?
>>
How is this even a debate? The USA is by far the most powerful state this world has ever seen. Not even in just what it owns but the mass export of culture is just astounding.

Military no one can even match them and I don't think its next competitor (China) will be ready to match them for another 20 years and even then if the Communist Party survives for that long I'd be surprised.

America effectively runs much of the world as client states and if it really wanted, it could influence the foreign policies of any of these controlled countries that it wanted with ease.

If you want to see what America can do Operation Desert Storm is a good place to start.

The United States. This is not even a question given that the US is historically the first Superpower.

Britain existed in a world where it actually had equals to its power: France, Russia, and later on German Reich. The US used to have the Soviet Union. Now it doesn't.

The USA also acquired global hegemony without actually having to control land. Despite the fact that we meme that DA US R DUMB, they were actually very smart in realizing that in 1890s-1920s, they made a huge mistake in joining the colonial game by acquiring the Philippines. Unlike the Colonial Powers, the USA saw that keeping a colony did not mean Muh Resources and Muh Captive Markets. Completely the opposite: you will have their resources alright but you will also pay for it's fucking development and in essence you're wasting more money than you're earning. So when the Great Depression rolled by and drove that fact harder to the US, the United States shifted tactics: they would free the Philippines but make it a client state and continue their hegemony through their capitalist institutions, close alliances with the Philippines, and mere military projection. All the benefits of having a colony via acquiring resources through capitalism, a friendly government who would go the way your policy chooses, but without running the actual place, in addition to being free of nationalist/anticolonial butthurt from said allied states. Meanwhile the Europeans clung on to their colonies desperately.

And thus was born a winning formula they would eventually apply the world over as the Colonial Powers would wreck themselves in two wars of their own fucking making.

California is also in a union with many other states. Imagine the EU but more intensive and powerful.

Whites in America don't really think of blacks or hispanics as "fellow Americans" because they are too culturally different from Americans with Anglo or other European heritage. Both groups are extremely cliquish and have little interest in assimilating to American white culture, so they remain outsiders in their own country.

Virtually every European American in the country.

There is a huge and long running cultural divide between Whites and Blacks and Hispanics and while all are legally Americans, none of the ethnic groups really associated with each outside of work, school and other "mandatory" type situations.
