I was only 9 years old

I loved Harris so much, I had all the merchandise

I pray to Harris every night, thanking him for defeating the Nazis

"Bomber Harris," I say, "do it again"

My dad hears me and calls me a partisan

I knew he was just jealous of my devotion to Harris

I called him a Wehraboo

He gassed me and told me to go to sleep

I'm crying now, and my face hurts

I lay in bed and it's really cold

I feel a warmth move towards me

I feel something touch me

It's Harris

I am so happy

He whispers into my ear, "God save the King"

He grabs me with his Avro Lancaster

I'm ready

I open my bomber bay for Harris

He drops bombs

It hurts but I do it for Harris

I feel the bombs exploding as my eyes water

I push against the bombs

I want to please Harris

He sips his tea as he fills my butt with bombs

My dad walks in

Harris looks him in the eye and says "Never was so much owed by so many to so few"

He flies out in his Lancaster

One of the thing I like about the events surrounding dresden is that the Soviets asked the Allies to do it as they feared the railway net of the city would be used for reorganizing German units, then after the war they would use the bombings as anti western propaganda.

whether or not it was moral strategic bombing never delivered on its promise of breaking the enemy's will to fight

The Western Allies bombed Dresden to show the Soviets "look we're helping you in the East", even though Dresden was out of the way and not really a strategic city. It didn't help the Soviets get to Berlin faster but it showed the Soviets the allies could hit soft targets near the Eastern front

Not him, but I believe what he's driving at is the divide in the purpose and resource allocation of strategic bombing in general, not the actual tactical situation in February of 1945.

Harris had been promising for years that enough bombing would break the German government and institute its collapse. It didn't, Germany was only put down when it was occupied after its armies were defeated; the air war was a supplement to the ground war, and not a replacement for it.

And for that, if not for moral issues, you have to throw a few rocks at Harris, because he constantly decried trying to attack economic targets in favor of hitting morale targets, which ultimately didn't hurt Germany as much as it could have.
