ALmost impossible to determine, because assuming he wins Hastings somehow, there are all sorts of branching off paths based on how decisive that victory is; lacking pursuit capability due to no cavalry, he can't chase down and wipe out William's force.

Now, it might melt away anyway, as William has little support on England itself and I'm not sure about the state of his finances and supplies, nor how much more he could obtain through raiding. But then again, it might not. And if it doesn't, how the rest of the war proceeds is a big fat question mark. And that doesn't leave out all the shit that happens between the 11th century and now. Anglo-Saxon England was weak; Harald had all sorts of institutional problems he had to work around that ultimately cost him his throne. Unless he or a successor can reform those and become more in line with contemporary feudal states, he (or someone else) is probably going to face another attack somewhere down the line.

English speakers would probably have an easier time understanding German, Danish, Swedish, Dutch, and Norwegian
