Was Diogenes actually influential?
is shitposting influential?
Have you ever used or heard the word 'cynical' used? If so, then you know the answer to your question.
He was influential enough that people were still writing down wacky stories about his life centuries later.
The Stoics quote the hell out of the Cynics and use them as examples for both exemplary and abhorrent behavior.
was gonna post this in the greek-buddhist thread before it died. Diogenes actually was influential as an intellectual, he was not just regarded as a crazy street bum. One of his pupils, for example, was Onesikritos, an historian who wrote 4 books on the education of Alexander (now lost, except for some fragments)

in this account he described the indian "gymnosophists" (naked wise men) and there is a controversy about how real this description is or if it is just an idealization of the greek cynic "wise man".
