It "was" justified by the ideal that people were bringing civilization to savages, the reality was people needed living space and pushed out the natives while forcing some to integrate.

Justification to conquest is a spook, all it matter is power/will.

If Europe was a left wing social democracy in 1492 what would have happened? Would they have left Moctezuma to raid the Tlaxcalans for slaves to sacrifice? Would they have allowed tribes that were trading and inviting European craftsmen to work for thm to be attacked by rival tribes?
