So apparently Islamic scholars used some sort of seven-clime system for categorizing peoples based on the environment they lived in, but I can't find any good sources on how it worked, or even what the climes were. Anyone have anything about it?

Pages 101-122, there's a bit of discussion on how the zones were determined preceding it (ctrl+f "zone" should help)

It's a pre-islamic thing.

Some long time ago I had on my hands a book on iranian sufism and it's pre-islamic roots, sadly I don't remember the name (but could try to find it if someone is interested.
It talks a bit about those seven climes and that section had this diagram to show how persians perceived the world was, although if I remember well the book also talked about how the concept of seven climates went way beyond geographical division. Maybe post-islamic muslims had a similar concept of them. The names are in spanish but they're basically the same than in english.
Sorry for not having more to offer, I took the photo because it looked interesting and "cool" but didn't pay any special attention to this specific part of the book.
