Was Electoral College a tool of tyrants ?
>inb4 2000 Presidential Election meme
It's a way to limit to power of the ochlocracy, but it allows for oligarchy to creep it's way in.
Effectively votes only matter in ""swing states"" because of that, plus the 2 party system.

>votes only matter in ""swing states"" because of that, plus the 2 party system
this
this is the worst part of the US voting system
It works if there is no peoples vote at all and its just the states governments deciding who will be president. That is what is was intended for, the states would select the people who sat on the college to decide the next president.
Adding the popular vote messed the whole thing up, either get rid of the college and let the popular vote decide, or get rid of the popular vote. Not this half-way bullshit.
One benefit of abolishing the popular vote is that it would force citizens to focus more on their own state governments and state elections.
What exactly would happen if the formation of political parties within official U.S. Government was abolished? Obviously there still would be public and private ones outside of government.

Thats... actually a pretty good idea. The only problem is that the federal government is far more powerful than it was originally intended to be, plus having a government not being elected by the people doesnt fly too well in a culture that wanks itself over "democracy"

The reason it doesn't fly in a culture that wanks itself over "democracy" doesn't know the actual differences between a republic and democracy.
