I genuinely believe it wasn't. Communists are right when they when say communism has never been tried. What it does show however, when humans get into groups, human greed, hatred for other groups and desire for power and security makes communism an impossible dream. Capitalism acknowledges human evil and compells people to work together for something we all understand: money. Its true that under capitalism a man can kill for money. But most men won't. Under communism, or rather what it warps into, men kill for ideological purity, which is far more dangerous because it can render entire groups of people nothing more than "bad guys", unworthy of mercy or consideration.

Communism was never tried, but it was attempted, and the result of it killed 10 million people and still continues to kill people in gruesome, unneccessary ways today.

Well Hitler was part of the national socialist party. Plus im pretty sure Marx used the word socialist interchangeably with communist.

Anyways, is stalinism, or Trotskyism, or Marxist lennisin, or maoism, not considered forms of communism?

When people say for example the USSR is not communist, do they mean its not communist because it doesn't fit the criteria of communism lated out by Marx? Thus implying that all definitions of communism are false, excluding the definition played out by Marx?

On a small scale, that's different from the workers of a nation rising up and siezing the means of production. And what killed communes, in specific American ones, was greed. You know as well as I do people don't work like that. Even with the force of the state, many people won't accept when a relationship is over. I'm not saying that Communism is doomed to fail because of monogamy, just that it doesn't take into account human flaws. It relies on everybody playing fair.

I think it might be better to ask why communism has been attempted so many times and destroyed so many nations. These aren't small scale fuck ups. In everywhere communism has been attempted, you see broken, nihilistic and violent people. While it is true that Capitalism did the same, its problems were mostly confined to Britain, where did some really nasty things when Capitalism first started, such as abolishing charity which lead to mass starvation and poor houses, to what we did during the potato famine. But once the formula and limits of capitalism were set, its worked nicely for every country that's accepted it.

I think Leninism was the worst thing to happen to socialism, and Marxism-leninism or some offshoot of it are the ones that have been "tried". There are very few socialist societies that weren't M-L since the USSR took over all international communist organizations from the mid 20s onward.

I think that's a pretty huge overstatement. Fordism worked quite well but countries that have been forced to "accept" capitalism (a.k.a. not protect their infant industry) have been doing pretty badly since the late 70s.
