Why didn't southeastern Asian nations conquer Australian lands?
there were many strong nations, such as Majapahit, but they didn't...
why?
>>
They weren't geared towards expansionist imperialism. Besides, the Australian continent served nothing for them, even the Dutch didn't want it. Britain only used it as a dumping ground for criminals.
>>
>>1800306
Australia is a shithole.
>>
>>1800306
Literally Emu's

Modern industrialised Australian military couldn't defeat them in battle with modern automatic machine guns, how would you expect South East Asian spearmen and bowmen to take such monstrous creatures on?
>>
>>1800306
Australia is fucking terrifying.
>>
It was to damn big and inhospitable, the English survived by unitentuonally introducing diseases to reduce the native population numvers
>>
>>1800306
They took one look at the giant spiders and went NOPE.
>>
>>1800331
This, can you imagine the Emu'ic Empire fighting against Indonesian Sultanates? Shit would be a massacre
>>
>>1800306

Mostly because some of them did trade with Aboriginies

You wouldn't want to cut off a portion of trade, and furthermore, Australia was deadly. Not the most ideal of places.

in traditional beliefs, the southern sea (off java island) is the edge of the world and nothing resides after there beside demons and mythical things

>>
>>1800306
This is a really good question.

>>1800345
>Mostly because some of them did trade with Aboriginies

Aboriginal Australians wouldn't have been hard to conquer and if you can conquer somebody and take everything they have, that's better than trading with them for 100 years, especially if they aren't any help as military allies.

>>1800320
This might actually be it. I think it's likely that anyone who did stay find and settle in australia got bred into the aboriginal population over time and disappeared. No large settlement would stay here as there was a shitload of work to be done and no rewards.

White people literally deserve Australia for the hard work they put in.
>>
>>1800408
Killing your trade partners is retarded
>>
It was full
>>
>>1800525

What, exactly, could the Abos have traded with outsiders? They didn't have plantations of spices, they didn't have mines to extract the mineral wealth, they didn't even have axes to cut down gum trees.
>>
>>1800318
FPBP
If the Dutch wont have it, there is no profit to be in sight.
>>
>>1800525
>conquering means killing
>you need partners for trade because somehow unequal relations don't exist
>>
>>1800408
>Aboriginal Australians wouldn't have been hard to conquer
Yes they would. They were never a collective. They were small war-happy pockets that split the territory up like Europe. Fuck one up and the others will try and fill the vacuum. If you're there they'd team up on you. Unless you were happy spending an ass-load of resources to keep defening a tiny patch you'd need to take a bug enough patch to consolidate yourself as a proper colony. During this colonisation the abos would gurrelia warfare the shit out of you. They managed to annoy the English who were leagues above them rather successfully. If a nation of similar tech and sophistication tried it, the aboriginals would have repelled them.
They weren't strangers to war, mate. They took the entire continent from its original owners, the Tasmanians.

Best post in the thread.
>>
>>1800408
the one who made contact with them was the makassar people who were famous for their sailing and trade, what they wanted was sea cucumber which were prized for its culinary and medicinal values in Chinese markets, this was all the way from their home and id imagine just trading cheap shit with them would be easier and cost effective rather than trying to conquer them

Why didn't the Emus expanding into Spice Islands to consolidate their colonial claims? Hell, if they had allied with the Moas they could have stopped the Maori from eating them and they could have joined a Emu-Moa alliance, they would have been unstoppable.
>>
>>1800635
Emus were contained to their own national concerns at the time. Before the great treaty of northern powers, Cassowaries were still in open insurrection. The efficiency of their disruption to emu production and resource gathering needed to be attended to. They were in no condition to offer help to the Moa.
Luckily, as we all know the Emus ceded land to the Cassowary seperatists. With the Cassowary now in control of the richest resources on the continent the Emus had to turn to technological and agricultural improvement in order to sustain their growth. It was ultimately the right call as the Cassowaries never launched another assault on emu land and an unprecedented peace fell over the continent until the English began to start colonies.

They couldn't handle Australian beer and pussied off

You should tell Sri Vijaya, Majapahit, and Brunei that.

I will, what's the Sultan's phone number pham?

Probably because you're intimidated by people who can spell and absolutely horrified of those who can deliver bantz. It's okay, buddy, we won't bully you too hard.
Besides we have loads of uranium and are in the middle of no where. We're a pretty great ally to have for any modern nation, at least in terms of high resources and low responsibility.
>>
>>1800916
How do you say that with a straight face. They burned half the fucking thing down and irreparably doomed the centre to being a waste land.
Be glad it was colonised when it was.
>>
>>1800937
>centre to being a waste land.

I unironically love the desert 2bh
>>
>>1800306
When nearly every animal can kill you, from spiders to kangaroos to hordes of mice that looks like waves, where even the god damn trees can explode... it's time to take your losses and go home.
>>
>>1800776
Brunei was the first thalassocratic Empire to emerge in Borneo. Though mostly its expansion was northwards.
>>
>>1800940
It's unironically unsustainable 2bh. If there weren't minerals out there NT would be basically empty other than 'communities'
>>
>>1800937
Burning shit down = regrowth -> more food
When you are in a place for an uninterrupted 50,000 years, you become part of the ecosystem
>>
>>1800306
Because they weren't white and didn't need to subjugate other people to thrive.
>>
>>1800998
There was no regrowth. Show me one credible source on that. All the inland forestation was permanently destroyed. They did it because they fucking hated snakes.
Plus side- the snakes are dead
Minus side- they created a massive wasteland

Do you really think that they did the right and clever thing?
