It depends on what you mean by coincidence. Every folklore tradition features some stories about people. A logical next step from normal people are people who are just like normal people, but different in some important way; giantism is an easy way to accomplish that. And it makes a lot of sense as a concept when you realize that giants in most traditions serve as examples of perverted human values (cannibalism, cruelty). They're there as examples of how humans aren't supposed to act and demonstrations of how close people can come to being monsters without the proper social guidelines in place.

I work in an east coast art museum. It's a century old, but has a lot of older stuff.

My personal experiences:

>working night event to celebrate centennial anniversary of museum+opening of American wing
>my side of the wing is split into three sections that feed into main lobby. There's another three sections on the other side but that's irrelevant
>one guard per section, one walking back and forth across the three doors to help play champagne goalee from drunk rich people trying to bring booze into the art spaces
>everyone's just getting onto the floor, guests aren't in yet, just guards and caterers

>see woman in red dress going around the corner in the back of the gallery (the sections feed into each other at the ends)

Regarding that same spot in particular, it has a couple side rooms that are literally transplanted from historic houses in the area, from the furniture to the walls and flooring. We've had a medium show up (not sure if the museum was okay with it or if they just turned up) who apparently sensed an angry man sitting in a chair. Older guards have reported seeing disappearing children in there.

Outside of that room is the floor above, which also has some period stuff and has the usual reports of disembodied footsteps from guards. One such guard, a no-nonsense older guy who we're all pretty sure was either a cop or a mob enforcer in his younger days apparently once was being harassed by this and reportedly called out, "Guys, I'm just trying to do my job here, so you leave me alone and I'll leave you alone," and legend has it has never once been bothered since.

I've been through this area at night and have never had issues, which I thank God for because I think I'd shit myself. Ditto for the nearby museum library, which another old guard told me recently he'd seen a figure moving through the bookcases before.

Another guard has a story from a time he worked a graveyard shift (12-8) with just one other guy, a massively fat man with gout named Steve.
Night tours work in that one person stays in the surveillance cam room at all times while the other takes a tour through the building, checking doors and whatnot,the two taking turns throughout the night. Guard 1 was at the far end of the museum in the galleries doing his routine, when apparently in a T-shaped hallway, two of the three doors slam shut at the exact same time. Guy high-tails it back to the cam room with the vague idea that fat, gout-foot Steve somehow played a trick on him and opens the door to find Steve cold asleep.

One guard has seen an orb on the camera in the auditorium. I'd be dubious, but she's the most cynical person on the face of the earth and other guards who worked at the time also saw it and confirm that it was some anomalous shit.

On a more personal note, we've had one guard die of a heart attack in the galleries, and some time later someone reported seeing the guy on a balcony for a moment before fading.

On a more humorous and much less credible point, a blustery short old black guard will always happily tell you of the time he was working a night shift with a newer guy who got spooked to hell when he was taking a piss when all of the faucets amd and toilets in the bathroom starting running and flushing at the same time. Said guard shakily runs back reporting to our small hero, who apparently walks over to the bathroom, throws open the door, yells, 'Y'all cut that shit out!', which actually works, and then walks back, sits down and calmly goes back to watching porn on his phone.

One, I also always go quickly through the European section because there's a 14th century statue of St. Catherine of Alexandria that gives off a malicious vibe to me. Not really a story, just gut feeling.

Secondly, another guard who regularly works night shift reports seeing shadowy figures walking around our African section, which is largely tribal masks and statuary. I'm spooked by ghosts, but African juju shit is a whole other level of NOPE for me.

What those steps were for? I would suggest that there were stores or hovel houses around there made of wood. Similarly there would also have been wooden structures serving to allow one to ascend to each level.
These all deteriorated with time and the foundation of what was once a lively structure remains.

The same goes for every other story of giant remains being found (although fun fact, the way bodies disarticulate when decomposing sometimes makes them look much larger, which may have caused some misinterpretations).
