Borders aren't drawn perfectly in line with languages. Germany wasn't even a country untill the 1800s, before that various german peoples speaking various dialects lived in different states in central europe. Ffs, there are german speaking minorities in belgium, france and italy, and there were significant populations of germans in poland and Czechoslovakia pre ww2.

Since you seem to be a bit ignorant, allow me to give you other examples:

Before the 1800s occitanian was spoken in southern france, something thats more similar to Italian and Catalonian than to the Parisian french we call french today.

Afrikaans is widely spoken in namibia despite it being an official language of south africa.

Hindi is spoken in parts of pakistan despite it being an indian language.
