Not that bad, actually. Negotiated the Helsinki accords which reduced Cold War tensions and resisted his advisers' pressure to commit heavily to new wars. He ran a spirited campaign in 1976--Carter led polls after the Democratic Convention in all 50 states and Ford ended up fighting him to a near-draw. With the way the polls were moving, he'd have won the election were it held a week later.
