The Irish captain that Prince Charles had delegated the setting of the order of battle to was a complete fucking idiot. He was a decent administrative supply officer but a horrible tactician. All the other Jacobite captains protested, knowing that they would get slaughtered, but Charles didn't listen to them.

In fairness the Irish contingent with the Jacobites were the only unit who won their engagement on the day, and after it was clear the battle was lost, they held the line while the Scots retreated
