And what are your general thoughts on him?

Why are you posting about such an irrelevant shit stain?
>>1735607
>was x a proto-x
No
>>1735699
Do you think he wanted it to fail? Was he trying to make himself a blood sacrifice to rejuvenate the nation?
>>1735968
After Casement was captured and the volunteers pulled out, that became the plan.
>>1735607
I don't see anything about corporatism or totalitarianism on his Wiki page.
Italian fascists were in no way influenced by him, meaning he can't be proto-fascist.
So no.
>>1735607
is it true he had a gay fanfic diary?
>>1735607
No but Connolly was a socialist.
>>1735997
No, but in a vague sense it's fair to apply a fascist filter onto to him. Though it may be somewhat anachronistic, the ideas and feelings of that era fed into fascism.

He said something about wanting to rub the butts of bishops I think.
>>1735607
Not really. Though a nationalist, he was pretty clearly an anti-imperialist.
Also he gets far too much credit for 1916
I think he is certainly the most interesting of the '16 leaders. Which is amazing in itself. Comprised of Scottish Marxists, Pious Catholic Gaelic revivalists, classicist liberals and your bread and butter trade unionists. This was a loose band of committed ideologues who recognised that for any revolution to be successful they would need to sow the seeds of success by watering the ground with the blood of martyrdom and captivating the mindset of the mass of Irish people who at that point were mainly indifferent to nationalism and more focused on living standards.
Pearse, I believe, saw himself as primarily a son of the Catholic church and he was more than eager to undergo his own passion to create his vision of a Gaelic European outpost which rejected materialism and embraced a celtic Catholicism. The man was stern, poetic and deeply troubled. His work on the Irish language and separation from Britain can easily be overshadowed when one looks at his relationships with young boys.
