Why did men's mainstream fashion go from normal suits before the 1970s, weird suits during the 70s, and then just absolute shit from the 80s to now?
>>
How are men's suits not "normal" now? What is normal?

solid color that isn't bright green or yellow or some shit, and no bell bottoms

um okay, do you get what I meant in OP? I'm talking about what average men wear in public, does everyone wear a suit where you live?
>>
>>1713829
You implied the suits of today went to shit

Also, because suits are fucking expensive.
>>
>>1713829
Are suits expected if not required for most white-collar jobs and formal events?
>>
>>1713829
>does everyone wear a suit where you live?

Never been the case anywhere.
>>
>>1713834
I literally said men's mainstream fashion
>>1713835
Yes but that has nothing to do with current men's fashion and how everyone just wears a t shirt and jeans
>>
>>1713838
How hard is it to go to shorpy.com and look at early 20th century photos of city centers where EVERY man is wearing a suit
>>
t shirts and jeans go back a lot further than you think. As much as the 1940s/1950s is heralded as the height of the suit era it was very common to run around in polo shirt and shorts.

Look at photos to financial centers.
>>
There's an element of culture to it really OP, the reason the 70s goes wacky and wild is for the same reason "100% Polyester" is touted as a good thing at the top of the ad, whilst it'd be considered the opposite nowadays. New was good, vibrant and unusual was good.

As to why no one wears 'leisure suits' anymore, I couldn't really say honestly.
