Just don't think Ethiopians are innocents, they castrated the prisoners and did their share of war crimes and general horribleness. This is WW2 we're talking about.

Ah. Yeah, central Peloponnese is often mentioned here, when the "Italians were good people" rhetoric is brought up in WWII discussions. Then again, so is the fact that Cefaloni's population sided with the Italians, when they decided to side with the Allies (it was post-8 of September, so the Italian army was left without any kind of order, so, no, they were not defectors) and fight to death, instead of surrendering to the Germans.

they had this thing with lining up all the men in villages they didnt like and tearing them all down with tank mounted high calibre machineguns - this, while being a majestic manifestation of machine force and futuristic panash, prooved to be couterproductive tho since it got everione who could walk to run for the hills and join the partisans

and doing rapresaglie each time some of theirs got killed by guerrilas during occupation, like 20 for 1, this kind of got to people, again not in the way they expected

and beating people to death in public to proove a point, a clear and direct method to be sure but still people didnt seem to get it

and distributing blackshirts from other parts of italy into places where they wouldnt realy understand the local dialect so they wouldnt have a problem with beating raping torturing and showing glicerine oil down peoples throats so they get diarrhea for a week

they loved that gimic with glicerine oil it was like their way of being humorous, one must appreciate a sense of humor in such times

plus they had dosens of camps in the adriatic coast and islands, work camps death camps, the lot - most of these werent made for jews even, that one was the one on Rab, they had a neat trick by the way, the would build a official cemetery next to the camp and put registered and well marked tombstones and crosses naming the individual in the grave, except there would be like 16+ other people there with him - this was another humorous gag on their part, it made it so it took decades to find all the bodies, people literaly didnt think to look in the marked graves

they also were instrumental in starting the balkan tradition of ''jame'' or as italians know them ''foibe''

nazis had all sorts of ridiculous theories and excuses to explain away why they mass murder other humans, soviets had stories about class war and revenge and hatred for the cursed traitor/enemy, partisans had similar ideas, allies had the whole - fuck them all their all nazis any way who care if kids burn in thebombings theire nazi kids right

their victims just had two basic faults, firstly they were not on their side, and secondly they were alive

both faults got easily fixed
