Toyotomi Hideyoshi threated Spain to invade the Philippines. But was it possible for Japan at that time to invade the Philippines and defeat Spain ?

Not with those crappy ships they don't. They wont even make it to Southeast Asia alive facing the sea alone.

If he could court some other European naval powers, he might be able to.

Japan was at the peak of its power during his time. With the whole country under his control, if he played his diplomacy right, other European nations would jump at the opportunity to see their rivals gone and have more influence in Japan.
>>
the real question is "how good was the Spanish hold on the Philippines, and how much did the natives and nearby states like having the Spanish there?"

The dutch are their main european rivals. They would love to see the Spanish fail. The muslim traders probably were against the Christian empire planting its foot on its doorstep.

On top of that, Spanish claim on Philippines was a very new thing, so their holdings are very weak and only able to fend off neighbors who are throwing spears or are courting the good neighbor policy.
>>
couldn't even invade korea, so no.

Backed by the Ming army, so they'd have a hard time there.

Mings are a real threat with their massive armies. The Spanish meanwhile are not so much. This time period is when the European countries are getting their dick wet for the first few times.
>>
A couple decade later Koxinga wrecked the Dutch and kicked them out of Taiwan with his private Ming/pirate army so that's kinda relatable.
>>
If he had managed to get his armies over, then yes, but that's a pretty big fucking if. Japan itself didn't have the transport capability to do so, and any Japanese ships that they could send would probably have to deal with cannon-armed Spanish vessels.

>"how good was the Spanish hold on the Philippines,
Bretty good. Spics successfully converted many of the powerful tribes to Christianity by the 1590's
>how much did the natives and nearby states like having the Spanish there
A lot of the natives considered themselves good Spic subjects. This is followed by the allied tribes who may balk at subjecthood but considered themselves good christians and benefitted off the destruction of Muslim Filipino power.

What's worse: Ming China informally considers Spain an ally. Spain pays in silver, something the niggers surronding China cannot do.

To highlight that relationship, in 1570s, a dreaded pirate lord named Ah Hong (Limahong to the Spanish) invaded the Philippines in an attempt to carve out a pirate kingdom.

Ming China sent a fleet under a guy whom the Spanish called "Captain Omoncon" to assist Spain and capture the pirates, though this wasnt needed when the pirates were defeated north of Manila by a force of Spanish colonial troops and native allies.

Didn't Toyotomi's rule happen at the same time of the Dutch War of Independence? Would it be unthinkable for the Dutch to back his navy against the Spanish in order to distract them, then?

This was the 1500s. Dutch were barely presence in Southeast Asia at the time.
