What is the point of keeping the Moseic Laws in Judaism? Jews have no concept of hell, only (maybe) non-existence for the worst of people, but otherwise you only have to be a moral person to be able to live again in a paradise on Earth after the Messiah comes. This applies to everyone regardless of faith or how they practiced it.

Non-Jew but my general understanding is that halakha is important because it comes directly from God and by following it you respect the partnership between God and man.
>>
>>1692625
>Hell is the main moral motivator for a lot of ancient people's morality
This is how stupid you sound.

Why do greeks, chinks, romans have morality when everyone is going to the same afterlife?
>>

Jews don't keep the mosaic laws.

if it was the case, we should see them stoning adulterers, killing apostates, and so on.
>>
>>1692625
Because the Jews believed that God expects more from them than then non-jews.

Also, the covenant God made with Abraham. The Jews felt like they owed God more thn the average person in exchange for the land he promised them.

>Greeks
they did not, they had Tartaros for the worst with ironic punishment, and Elysium for the righteous.

>romans
the same

>chinks
they became buddhists and started believing in reincarnation.
>>

>How to get to Tartaros
Do something the gods hate and only gods know what the fuck that is.
>How to get to Elysium
Do something epic and only gods know what the fuck that is.
For everything else: there's the underworld.
>Romans
Either believed in Greek bullshit or in the ancestor worship which is native to them. Everyone goes to the same afterlife either way.
>Chinese
>Everyone is buddhist
Majority of Chinkdom believed in folk Chinese religions. Everyone goes to the same afterlife in the halls of their ancestors in the heavenly realm.

Hell even a lot of Buddhist Chinese believed in that due to syncretism.

Judaism doesn't have a concept of faith, of "belief in God['s existence]" identical to the Greek pistis.

It has Emunah and Bitachon, roughly translated as steadfastness and trust respectively.

Here's on how you connect with God, (read the Star of Redemption for further reading):

Simply put, Judaism doesn't stop with theism.

You have a purpose in the world.

It doesn't really answer my question, except the second one, which basically says you should give charity etc. because it makes the world a better place. I like the sentiment, but most of the Mosaic doesn't really "bring peace". How does keeping the Sabbath, not mixing milk and meat, not cutting your hair on the sides etc. make the world better?

>he thinks scripture is about theology and not social control

good goy

Maybe it sounds counter-intuitive if you don't live the Jewish way, but discipline makes you better at making the world better.

All these laws to keep track of will train your memory and make you a better potential lawyer, so you would be able to fight injustice better. For example, the mitzva you referred to is against shaving the side of the hair with a razor, there are ways around it, learning to distinguish what exactly is forbidden and what is not since childhood makes you smarter. If a commandment sounds silly and arbitrary, chances are it's not as big of a difficulty to live through as you may think.

Jews save power during the Shabbat, rest their body and meditate upon creation to get started and motivated to get some more Tikkun Olam going right on the next day.

Keeping kosher means you get delicious food from trustworthy, hygienic sources who acknowledge and respect the creature who gives its life to become part of your body as much as the consumer.

From within, it would appear that, ultimately you need to be different if you want to make a difference.

But righteous Gentiles can eat their bacon and get in the World to Come too. It's all part of a relationship with God and this particular people, a light to the world - the purpose I was talking about

>What is the point of keeping the Moseic Laws in Judaism?

Because according to Judaism, it's the right thing to do. People who keep the Covenant solely because they're motivated by reward are considered very base, low people.

Wasn't this sort of the big contention of German philosophy and theology from Kant to whoever? That Judaism follows law but is not derived from law as a moral praxis?
