I am pretty tired reading through the usual/his/ bullshit of religious shitposting or buttblasted slavs memeing about germany so lets discuss an interesting not-discussed-to-death topic.
>How did France manage to fuck up so bad?
>Dien bien phu continued first world war mentality of the french military brass?
>How could France have won?

If you haven't noticed, Indochina was the first of many post-ww2 liberation wars. In the end, the occupier had to ask themselves; Is it worth it?
Turns out modern warfare is no longer the same as the old days and that's why the French lost.

the Viet Minh was causing a lot of problems by attacking when supply chains were weak, and eventually cut them off. At that point monsoon season for SE Asia was approaching (RIP supply drops), and they couldn't risk the manpower / assets by continuing to stay deployed there.
Ah yes, the french, kek

Actually lots of debate about German veterans, especially SS, fighting in the First Indochina War with the FFL.

Speaking of memes, isn't that pretty much the biggest one about the First Indochina War? Bernard B. Fall wrote that the amount of Germans in the FFL never exceeded 35%, and that is the highest estimate, actual percentage possibly being lower. This was because the French didn't want to turn the FFL into a "Praetorian Guard" dominated by any single nationality.
As for the Waffen-SS vets, they tried not to recruit them (some probably slipped through), and while German WW2 vets did probably serve in the FFL in some numbers, the average age of a FFL recruit during the First Indochina War was around 23 years old, so the vast majority of them served between 1946-1949, and were all but gone by 1952-54, and the decisive battles fought during those years.
Btw Devil's Guard is pretty much a Sven Hassel-tier war novel, ie. entertaining to read but has very little to do with any kind of historical accuracy.

Does that include French volunteers who served in the SS during WW2? I know there was quite a few of them.

Probably more so than any other foreign Waffen-SS volunteers, the French Waffen-SS volunteers tended to end up in prison of just straight up shot when handed over to the French.
