"A single death is a tragedy; a million deaths is a statistic."
What did he mean by this?
>>1675651
people like martyrs, identifiable
>>1675651
No proof he actually said it. Quote is falsely attributed to him.
>>1675651
If one man dies, you know his name, his life story and so on. If a million die, you don't care about a million names and their stories, hence, it becomes a statistic.
>>1675651
If one person close to you dies you would obviously care about it
The holocaust is not something which emotionally affects you because you weren't there
He never said that, and it means: you can really imagine or understand the death of one person, death of millions is hard to understand or ''feel'' so it just becomes a statistic.

"I can kill as many Ukrainaians as I want, and no one will care lol, who wants to stab my poltical opponets with an ice pick"
>>1677309
>Ukrainaians
and nothing of value was lost
>>1677334
But, I'm Ukrainian... :(

>Ukrainians

To add context, let's examine how big the number one million is:
If you were to count to 100 every minute and continue counting at that pace every hour of every day, week, month, it would take you roughly one and a half YEARS to count to one million. (1500 years for one billion)
Let that sink in for a moment. It's just too large a number to wrap your head around.
