Please explain answers

Also, bullshit conspiracy theories are null in this thread
>>
>>1670368

The US obviously.
>>
>>1670368
America. They raised the bar higher than the USSR could match, so they won. Its like high jump at the olympics, you dont win by being the first to jump each of the lower heights, you win by jumping higher than the other contestants can match
>>
>>1670368
I would say USA. They're the only ones who planted a flag in space.
>>
>>1670381
Truly 4chan reasoning.

it's not the people who win the argument, it's the ones who lose at every step and then shift the goal post to something else so they can win.

Russians had first satellite in orbit, Russians had first man in orbit, yeah they didn't make it to the moon, they did everything else first and Americans were too butthurt.

Russians could call it quits, cause they won. Americans HAD to shift the goal posts so they didn't lose face for the population and expose the wastage they spent trying to beat the Russians.

They were literally first in space, they won the space race.
>>
The American people. We got the Internet and Velcro out of the deal.
>>
>>1670388
>>1670381
>>1670391

The irony is that now the US relies on Russian rocket engines for getting stuff into space. The US really let itself go.
>>
>>1670368
Hollywood studios.
>>
>>1670397

>yeah they didn't make it to the moon

That's the only part of your post that matters.
>>
>>1670399
Because when the Russians realized they couldn't make it to the moon they saw it for what it was, a boastful endevour, they then spent their time and effort on perfecting rockets and how to get them into orbit.
>>
>>1670397
It wasnt an argument, it was a battle of one-upmanship. America set a standard the USSR couldnt meet. The US won because the soviets agreed they had won
>>
>>1670406
Only Americans say this though :^)
>>
>>1670408

>when the Russians realized they couldn't make it to the moon

They could have they just gave up. Fucking losers.
>>
>>1670420
America matched every russian achievement, Russia failed to match every american achievement. Russia lost
>>
>>1670368
Everyone knows that the Cyber-Devil won the space race and Mars was been colonized by satanic machines with the help of Steve Jobs in the 1990s.
>>
>>1670368
Well the US won it but you have to commend the USSR for placing the 1st satellite in orbit, 1st man to orbit earth. Because without their achievements the US wont even have the initiative to do it.
>>
>>1670416
>It wasnt an argument
It was a race. You don't move the end of a race when the winners you want to win don't win.

The only way you CAN say Americans won the space race is by terming what it means to be a race, and that term being explicit not a race, but high-jump competition.

You cunts are fully hilarious.
>>
>>1670458

There is only one flag on the moon and it isn't Russian.
>>
American and Soviet progress in the space race mirrors their histories in general.

The Soviets were scary motherfuckers in the 50s, but the US put a lot of effort into catching up, and things started to go downhill fast for the Soviets beginning in the 70s.
>>
>>1670461
A space race =/= first man on the moon.

A space race is first man in space, which the Russians won. If it were, it would have been called the moon race.

not a race which came about when America wanted to beat Russia with the first satellite in orbit, which they fucking lost.

By every metric America lost the race, UNTIL you all shift the posts.
>>
>Russians didn't make it to the moon

Are you all retarded?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Luna_9
>>
>>1670479
Sputnik was the beginning of the period commonly known as the Space Race though.

That was what started the race.
>>
>>1670479

The Space Race was all about who could get to the moon first.

The USA won.

50 years later Russia still has not gone to the moon.
>>
>>1670458
>It was a race
No it wasnt, thats just what we call it today because American victory defined the endpoint. The bar was raised, russia failed to meet it, russia lost
>>
>>1670487
>The Space Race was all about who could get to the moon first.
hehehehehe.

No. That's factually wrong, l;ike, you can only argue that from ignorance.

Sure you can think you;re right, ignorance is literally bliss.
>>
>>1670479
Just like the nuclear arms race was the race to the first nuclear bomb? Oh wait...
>>
>>1670490
>The space race isn't a race
>>
>>1670493
>No. That's factually wrong
Correct, it was about supremacy in spaceflight. If russia had landed men on the moon then it would have ended on an a comet or an asteroid or mars
>>
>>1670508
>Correct, it was about supremacy in spaceflight
Hahaahahaha, thanks man.

America is using Russian technology. Russians won. They have the spaceflight supremacy, again, by literally every metric.
>>
>>1670505
It wasnt really, not in the sense of trying to achieve a specific goal as fats as possible
>>
>>1670505

It really wasn't. Not in any literal sense. It was more about proving scientific superiority.
>>
>>1670514
Because America losses in that respect. You have to term it as something else in order to achieve victory, you lost. Plain and fucking simple.
>>
>>1670512
>by literally every metric
Except the only one that matters, namely matching and exceeding the achievements of your competitor
>>
>>1670368
The USSR

made it first to everything
>>
>>1670520
Russia gave up, they tried and failed to match america. They lost
>>
>>1670520

Then why hasn't Russia gone to the moon yet?
>>
>>1670368
The U.S. and USSR

The rest of the world proves they're inferior shitholes
>>
>>1670529
Except:
Orbital rendezvous
Direct ascent rendezvous
Orbital docking
Pilots changing spacecraft orbit
Spending more than a week in space
Men orbiting the moon
Men landing on the moon

Once again, everything russia has ever achieved was matched or exceeded by the US
>>
>>1670533
What's so fucking great about going to the moon when no one has gone back since?

>going to the moon is so fucking great
t. been once and not even trying to go back

There are bigger and better objectives? Going to the moon was an arbitrary finish line the Americans could win at after losing everything else.

Pat yourselves on the back.
>>
>>1670556
>t. been once and not even trying to go back
They landed successfully 6 times actually
>>
>>1670556
>Going to the moon was an arbitrary finish line the Americans could win at after losing everything else
It was the finish because russia couldnt achieve it
>>
>>1670556
>What's so fucking great about going to the moon when no one has gone back since?
Because that was the point when the Soviets knew that they couldn't keep up and have since been unable to match.
>>
>>1670368
Russia won race into space by definition (First man, First sat.)

USA won the final event of the race (To moon) and sort of long term won the whole cold war.

Mir makes me very depressed since it's literally "peace", as I'm now of the view that most of the time the USSR was just a paper tiger. Made of card, so a higher risk of papercuts, but still a paper tiger. Terrified of us while we assumed they were stronger than they were.
>>
>>1670591
"миp" stands for "world" and "peace" in russian.
>>
>>1670368
There's a fantastic and funny documentary called "How the USSR won the Space Race". It's made by the BBC, and since BBC checks everything and has the highest degree of quality and knowledge ever met by any broadcaster ever, I'm gonna go with the russians. Also because the russians were first to go into space, so yeah.. The space race. >>1670368
SPace into space first. SPace.
>>
>>1670549
It's easy to do something better. It's doing it for the first time that's hard. When Graham Bell invented the phone, people doesn't say heey shit what a fucking useless piece of shit, people give him creds for inventing the phone in the first place. Who the fuck cares about the moon to be honest?
Russia beat USA, realise it and move on, u fucking rednecks.

thank JFK, after that troublesome president blabbed "we're going to the moon" they had to actually work on it to save face
>>
>>1670461
It isn't American either.
>>
What an idiotic thread, what did you expect?
No one won. Both sides had important breakthroughs. It was a race that benefited humanity as whole.
>>
>>1670368
Since the word "race" implies who reaches the goal first and the goal would be landing on the moon, then the USA wins.

Raised the bar so USSR couldn't match? You mean Apollo 11?

Ivan had remote controled robot on moon two years later, that beats the first man on moon in my opinion.
>>
>>1672714
Why would goal be landing on the Moon?
Did both sides acknowledge that was the end-point of race?
Nope. It's like you people are retarded or something.
>>
Also, Soviets had Mir.
Why is that not a landmark like landing on the Moon?
Because you say so? This discussion is fucking idiotic.
>>
>>1670448
>hold 100m dash
>win
>opponent keeps on trying afterwards until he beats your time by .3 seconds
>race authority revokes your win and hands it to your opponent on the basis of "he ended up doing better than you"
Makes sense.

Corporations.

Look at all the meme governments now slacking off in their dedication to space. Revealing the true, primitive, drives of nationalism.

The real race is the race to Mars anyway.
>>
Satellite orbit was the opening shot of the space right right? There was no competition prior to that, so the US won for responding to and succeeding the Soviet challenge.

its not an american flag either.
All the space rads have bleached it.

USA won the moon race.

It was called a race because it rhymes with space.
>>
>>1670408
Those Russian rocket engines were actually designed for their moon rocket, which was a massive failure.

The engines were fine, its just that the rocket itself was a complicated mess and needed dozens of them. Shit inevitably went wrong with the fuel lines and it exploded.

There were plenty of spare engines in a warehouse though, and if you built a less insane rocket, they were actually very good engines.
>>
It was a constant show of one upping the other nation. The Soviets were desperate to look better so they pushed harder and got things out faster. Often at a nasty cost.
Sputnik fell out of orbit after a few months, far earlier than it should have. The first animal in space became the first animal to die prematurely in space after the heat shielding failed after only a single hour. The first man in space had a 50% chance to be the first dead man in space. Exactly the reason the US scrapped their launch that would have come two weeks earlier, saying it was simply too dangerous to risk. Also Yuri had to jump out of his spaceship and land via parachute because the Soviets didn't have a way to guarantee they could slow their craft enough to not kill whoever was inside.
This of course was in direct violation of the agreement that the first man in space must return to earth in his space ship, which is why the Soviets lied and said he did.

Ultimately the Reds started off strong and declined while the US started off flat footed and improved. The Russians tried their best to get to the moon with a man and failed utterly. Then spent the next 30 years having the KGB spread rumors about how the US faked the moon landing they were so butt hurt.

Now the USSR is dead and the US uses Russian rockets for space travel because it's cheaper than using American rockets which haven't been contracted by the government in years. Take that how you will.
