Hoo boy, wait until you find out what Sassanid-era Zoroastrianism was like beyond "it wasn't islam". The parallels between the clergy then and the modern IRI's mullahs are pretty nifty.

True, Sassanid Persian Zoroastrianism had a highly nationalistic bent, but it's still the only religion to condemn slavery. Setting a slave free (regardless of nation of faith) was still one of the most pious things to be in the Sassanid era

Accurate.

The Achaemenids were Iranians emulating Mesopotamia and the Sassanids were Iranians just doing their own weird insular thing. But under Islam Iranians became the cultural core of an entire world civilization, admired and emulated by everyone from Delhi to Constantinople. And of course, the Safavids were the greatest manifestation of that culture.

I love the Achaemenids and Sassanids, but they never reached the same cultural brilliance as the Safavids.
>>
>>1662958
Same for Christianity and Islam though. They didn't condemn it wholesale because both evolved in slave-based economies, so a total abolition would result in a total collapse, so they chose a gradual transition.

>>1662929

No. Those are not the same as a faith that considers setting slaves free to be an act of extreme piety.

What transition was that? The one where slavery was only abolished less than 200 years ago in Europe and still continues to this day in some parts of the Islamic world?

That's not so much a gradual transition as it is a non-existent one.

Because it was part of the economic system upon which arrived in the world. Both made the act of setting slaves free a great deed. Of course, setting all slaves free at once would crash the economy - so a gradual transition would make more sense.

Sorry, no. Also the whole labeling things as "fedora" or "pleb" or "patrician" is fucking retarded. Sassanids would be more relevant to modern Iranians and Persians then the Achaemenids because Iranians have always known about their Parthian and Classical Persian roots for millenia, the Achaemenids weren't known until the early 20th century. Most of what represents modern non-Islamic Iranian culture stems directly from those times.
>>
>>1663044
Iranians are Mesopotamian. Western Iran is part of the cultural boundary of lower Mesopotamia. And the Achaemenid Persians are simply extensions of the cadet branch of the younger ruling Median dynasty, who were directly influenced by the Neo Babylonians, Elamites, and Neo Assyrians in turn.

>What the fuck are you doing?
Not him but if you know anything about Iranian history you know the Medes and Achaemenids are from the same clan:
The Achaemenids are directly related to the Median royal family. Cyrus' mother is Astayges' daughter, his family is the junior line which is why Cyrus' father was the king of Anshan and Persia, and was the son-in-law of his father-in-law's vassal and a kavi.
>Arsacids/Sassanids
Two dynasties that are a direct continuation of the same pre-Islamic Empire. Further corrobrated by the fact the Sassanids utilized and employed the same confederations of Parthian royal families to prop up their military, government, and tribute system although more centralized, aggressive, and efficient then their Arsacid forbearers.

>Safavids/Afsharids
Nader Shah was more or less continuing the Safavid Empire while using the last Safavid's son as a figurehead. Iran/Persia was still united and ordered and he kept retaining the same government outside of usurping power till the death of his last successor.

>supports the OP
He just pointed out the Sassanids and Parthian dynasties were more long lived, and relevant then either the Achaemenids or Safavids.

___boo is just someone irrationally infatuated with any current or historical country/polity, typically thinking that it was the greatest thing ever. Germaboos think gross germaniums is the best thing ever, byzaboos think byzantium is the greatest empire in the world, etc.

You're allowed to like learning about certain countries, be interested in their history, and just in general find them interesting. just don't be an idiot about it, essentially. I enjoy learning about Byzantium, but I'm actually interested in the historical context of it's existence, not just rambling about how it's "le successor to rome le patrician tier :DD patriarchs :D cataphracts greek fire :D :DDD"

Horthy was a monarchist as far as I know and not a fascist.
He deeply despised Szálasi and the other far-right nutjobs and even though he was impressed by how Hitler shaped a bitter Germany into an economic superpower, he didn't like him. Even the Führer know this and we know this by the fact that he wrote about their first meeting: it was unpleasant because Horthy was cold and didn't lick his ass.
The guy was truly a leader, almost an authoritarian one sometimes, but no, he wasn't fascist, nazi, or any far-right buzzword you can think of.

4 isn't a broken game, it's a shitty game, there's a difference. It's probably the best one so far under the hood.
>>
>>1670933

Maybe these games aren't for you.

I've logged maybe 500 hours of Crusader Kings 2 and 400 hours of EU4. Maybe 60 hours of HOI4.

These games aren't bad.

Maybe your just too autistic about your video games.

Have you tried Gary Grigsby's War in the East?

HOI3 was OK, but it had too much micro which is why I still get frustrated with Vicky 2 in the later year Great Wars.

>Nobody has ever given a good reason for monarchies apart from "their uniforms look cool".
An argument could be made that having someone trained since birth to be the leader of the nation is a virtue of that form of government. Although imo history showed that monarchies merely produce a very mixed bag of good and bad leaders who are just as self interested as any other dictator, but there you have it.

They were already getting their shit pushed in by the Arsacid dynasty aka the Parni/Parthians and were reduced to a rump state after Antiochus III.

>>
>>1669342
I'm not sure what you're talking about. The Central Asian influence on Islamic painting came from the Sogdians and Sassanids, who were themselves influenced by a mix of Indian and Greek art. Major Chinese influence only came with the Mongols.
>>
>>1674259
t. tigan muntean
>>
>>1674001
That's a little different, though. Antonescu had deeper roots with his own country's fascist/national socialist party than Horthy. Antonescu didn't literally slap the shit out of Iron Guard members for demanding their leader be released from prison, for example.
>>
>>1674293
He had no roots. He was a career militaryman embodying the spirit of the 'old regime'. His collaboration with the Iron Guard was a result of realpolitik, same as Franco. The Legionary rebellion was a direct result of Antonescu's attempt to contest Sima's leadership and subdue the Iron Guard.
>>
>>1669274
>didn't speak Roman

>>1674319
He resigned his post and appeared at Codreanu's trials as a character witness, m8.

I'm not saying he wasn't more nuanced than just "lol he's a Nazi", and he definitely did clamp down hard on the Iron Guard when they finally went totally batshit in 1941, but he wasn't as removed from it as Horthy was.
>>
>>1674338
And I perceive that as an act of pragmatism in a context in which legionarism was clearly on the rise. He gambled on that just as he later on gambled on usurping Sima's role by taking on the green shirt. That's why I also draw a parallel to Franco that actually managed to tame the Falanga.

Tbh. it would be more "complex" than it is if the AI would be any kind of competent. Currently it can't even replace light tank brigades by medium tank brigades and neither it can react on you spamming armour in their general direction by equipping infantry with more AT guns, so you don't have to try too much. Investing in medium tanks will give you "outarmoured" advantage all the way to 1943-1944 even with most basic models and as such all nuance the game could have is outweighed by the ability to spam these fucking shits.

For even better result - do medium SPG's instead of medium tanks. Support those medium division with infantry equipped with tons of artillery and you're golden.

iirc it's a holdover from medieval medicine since it's not a thing in old or even Middle Persian. The thought was that since the liver is inflamed by booze that it was the seat of all the passions. So it's sort of kind of doing the same work as 'heart' in the sense of passion.

More spiritual/enlightened aspects of the western 'heart' are the role of 'Jaan' though, which is more someone's spirit/soul.
