when did he say this? he NEVER preached a second coming. that idea was tacked on by the early christians when they couldn't deal with the fact that the movement failed with his death.

He was vague enough hat he could've meant anything although a lot of people at the time interpreted it as happening in their lifetime because who wouldn't hope that the Kingdom would come before they die.

Some people were quitting their jobs and even Paul had to intervene and be like "No don't quit your jobs, the Kingdom is coming any day now but things still need to be done just keep your pants on"

Since then there have been many interpretations even going so far as to translate "generation" to mean "race" like the race of Jews, thus meaning that in the "generation of Jewish existence"

Another more recent one being that Jesus was talking about the renewal of Israel which happened in 1948 so a generation after that idk
