Art history courses tend to be really difficult nowadays because their professors have all reacted to the 'art history is easy' stereotype by going over the top in the opposite direction.

Really? How so? I might respect them then. Art is nothing but a cheap kitsch without substantial dose of elitism.

How I wrote it in my last post. The professors for those courses get annoyed at the perception of art history as the slack off option so they make their tests extra-difficult and force you to memorize tons of random little details just to scrape by with a passing grade.

Not that I'm concerned about not receiving an A, but the Art /his/tory course I'm taking (1 art req.) involves far more than I expected.
Thought we'd just cover the development of techniques starting with cave painting & sculpture while discussing the backgrounds of iconic pieces, but in two weeks (one double session per week) I've already had to write two essays, read 80+ text book pages, a quiz, and 5 weighty supplemental readings.
Like, jesus christ lady, you've justified your existence already.

Taking art history is a mistake. It's better to take courses people assume are going to be difficult like Ancient Greek. Those professors will tend to make things easy because they're concerned about not scaring off students. In general I noticed back when I was in university that upper level courses were much easier than entry level courses because of that tendency professors have to try to do the opposite of what the stereotype is for their subject matter.

Ah well, I'll stick with it. Her lectures are interesting at least.
