How is it that Turkics came to dominate so much of the middle east?
>>

Arabs are incompetent.
>>
Also Iran in particular.
>>
>>1658220
Arab caliphates trusted no arabs or persians in the army. So they used turkish slaves who they did convert. After a time they compromised huge chunks of the army and just took over.
>>
>>1658220
>Azerbaijan
>Turkic
>>1658235
For a short period of time only.
>>
>>1658235
Arent lurs also close to persians? The map includes mazaranis and gilakis to persians but no lurs
>>
>>1658235
Safavids.

Also "Turks" in Iran are about as Turkish as Anglo-Americans are English.
>>
>>1658220
Large scale migrations, just one of several over thousands of years of Eurasian history.
>>
>>1658268
Well genetically they are iranic. They dont seem to show big signs of seperatism so the get along with persians pretty well and are treated equally. But i dont know how important their turkish heritage is to them. If it is just tradition or if their is a hidden nationalistic notion.
>>
>>1658235
>Gilakis

>Iran in particular
Not really. One of the primary reasons the Turkics were able to overthrow the Abassaids was because the Iranian intermezzo period literally broke the Abbassids in period of 200+ years of continual independence and the caliph becoming continually more of a symbolic figurehead like the Pope then an actual ruler of a realm or nation. On top of that, Turkic domination of Iranian lands lasted not particular long. The Seljuk Empire itself was barely a century before it got broken up into various competing small states and kingdoms and so on with the Mongols, Illkhante and whatever.

>>1658286
>>1658268
Safavids were always Iranic. They were a mixed Persian-Kurdish-Azeri family, nothing Turkic about them.
>>
>>1658220
The same way that Germanics dominate northern Europe. Become the primary component of foreign armies and then take over from within e.g. Anglo-Saxons in Britannia, Franks in Gaul, Odovacer etc.
>>
>>1658268
Turkmens are completely mongolic, Azeris are just brainwashed by Russian propaganda in the late 19th and early 20th century into thinking because their language was lost and replaced by Turkish that they were "ethnically" Turkic. Hence why Iranian Azeris hate their "Turkic" Azerbaijani counterparts.

>>1658286
That's because Turkmens in Iran are literally still living like medieval commoners more or less for the most part for the last 400 years and counting and they are tiny population of semi-nomadic pastorals. And actual ethnic Turks (as in Turkish "Turks") constitute a ridiculous tiny minority that no one cares what they do. Only ethnic groups in Iran for the last century or two trying to go separatist are the more extreme Kurds (and they aren't supported by their community for a separate state in Iran), Balouchis, and Arabs in Khuzestan.

>>
>>1658312
aren't azeris Turks? I always thought turkic was more of a cultural linguistic group than an ethnicity.
>>
>>1658290
Well kurds show seperatistic tendencies so they dont seem to care about their common heritage and dont regard iran as their homeland.
>>
>>1658328
No, they aren't. Only Azerbaijan's Azeris think they are Turkic. Iranian Azeris are both culturally, genetically, and ethnically still Iranian and not Turkified.

>>1658332
Not really in Iran. Like I said, unlike in Iraq, Syria, or Turkey, the majority of Kurds just want better representation with the Iranian government and more rights putting them on equal terms with Azeris, Persians, and other then a separate state.
>>
>>1658314
Wrongo.

Turkics literally made "sultan" a kingly title. Under the Caliphates, it simply meant "Governor" but shitloads of Turkic-carved states turned that title into something resembling kingship. Because technically, the Abbasids bestowed "governorship" over the the Turkic Khans/Mirzas, and whatnot but due to sheer military power, the Turkic Sultans acted like they have their own states.
>>
>>1658220
Same way the Germanic and Slavic tribes came to dominate Europe. Native population centers collapsed due to plague, famine, and war, and the wax and wane of tribal politics ended up pushing whole tribes to migrate into the gaps left behind.
>>
>>1658356
The Arabs were already using the term "emir" for governors weren't they?
>>
>>1658348
Im not sure about that m8. There is literally a kurdish organisation fighting iran all the time

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kurdistan_Free_Life_Party
>>
>>1658364
Yup. Notable examples being caliphs referred to as "Emir ul-Momineen" or "Prince of the Believers" since Muhammad's death.
>>
>>1658368
Yes, I know. But they aren't supported by the majority of the Kurds in Iran unlike the KKP in Iraq or Syria. They are a fringe extremist group like Jundallah which gets supported by Pakistan's terrorist government.
>>
>>1658364
Yeap, but Emir is a lesser rank.

Though there were (are) independent emirates.
>>
>>1658385
Emir only became a lesser rank due to sultanates regularly dominating emirates however. Before that Emir was one of the titles of caliphs.

Simple answer: Horse archers and superior cavalry. Also the fact that by the late Abbasid Dynasty all of the elite soldiers were Turkic Ghulams.
>>
>>1659285
That's obviously not completely true given the Abbassids were massively reliant on major Persian states for its military at that point.

why did a meritocratic militaristic nomadic society prone to building large and expansionist empires based of law-based statism and pseudo-secularism succeed in taking and controlling sparsely populated lands in which they were already being used as mercenaries for hundreds of years prior

or did i just answer my own question?
>>
simple... not one man can stand smelling the stink of the turk except for serb
>>

>implying
>>
>>1658220
germanic funnelled them down into the chockepoint of byzantium which had been colonised by minoans and their successors for 4000 years before it was finally overrun by turk/arab nigger mix
>>
>>1660560
>sparsely populated

Nigga what is persia and egypt ?
>>
>>1658220
Turkish nomads conquered large swathes of land and managed to get a lot of people to speak their language by holding onto power for a long time. They didn't replace the local populations of Anatolia or Persia, they just ruled them. The people are largely the same genetically at least.
