Let's have a thought experiment.
Let's say aliens exist and are smart enough to travel intergalactically. What purpose would they have to visit earth?
Here are some things they wouldent be here for.
>As a resource
Their are so many planets out there that don't have life but also all of our mineral resources that picking the one with biological formations is dumb. We'd be more valuable alive then dead.

Here are some reasons why they might
>they are hedonists
They are traveling the universe to experience any and every cardnel pleasure they can and possibly attempting to obtain new ones. What if this race never has the ability to hear and found a race of musical professionals?
>they're cruel
Unlikey since a race like this would probably kill itself before ever landing of their lunar equivalent, but who knows.
>They're diplomats
They are here to talk or study us. They may not want us a part of whatever orginization they are apart of but they came to let us know they are here.
>>
>>1652904
>Our planet is one of the rare ones with intelligent life inside the borders of their galactic empire, and they are trying to subtly increase our technological and moral potential, projecting to let us join their empire and make us their allies
>>
It might amuse them to do so
>>
How about 'why the fuck not'

If there's an item in a large, otherwise empty room, you go check it out for no particular reason.

they'd kill everyone except for me
then i would take infinite life and seed all the beings of the universe with my sperm, forever, high
i would mould and bend spacetime as i saw fit, living an infinite eons and ages, creating and destroying as i so saw fit, unto the infinite unravellings of existence
>>
>>1652938
This honestly.

>>1652918
Also, Humans breed pretty fast. So if there were other, potentially hostile empires or groups of the same species out there, we could be convenient auxiliaries.
>>
They are making an intergalactic tv show , and we don't realize , they are laughing at us now.
>>
>>1652904
the same reasons we wanna meet aliens.
>>
They are studying us, now we are not a problem for them or for others planet's life , when we get that potential they will kill us .

What can we know what drives interstellar civilizations.

This century alone, most wars are waged for ideologies instead of resources. What kind of reasoning would ayys have in a civilization that exceed our own we will never know.
>>
>>1652996
Why would they do that?
>>
>>1652996
It's a lot easier to smash our civilisation a bit than outright genocide us.

Interesting question, actually (surprisingly). We'd likely share quite a few similar features, as the manipulation of tools is pretty much vital for a space-faring civilisation. So they'd probably have arms of some description. It makes sense for all the vital organs to be bunched in the same place as one going will kill you anyway, so they'd likely have a torso-analogue, and if they have any sort of analogue for bones or chitin it would certainly cover this "torso." It's probable that it's from this armoured organ box that their arms would come, too. In terms of sensing the world around them, it makes little evolutionary sense for their sensing organs to be fixed in place on their torsos, so they would likely have some sort of head-analogue with a bunch of sensing organs attached to it. Locomotion is very tough to call. They could be like us where the ability to grasp comes from our form of locomotion, i.e. swinging through the trees, or they could have developed graspers independently of their locomotion. But chances are, their locomotion apparatus would also be connected to the thing with all their vital organs in it.

So we have aliens that are probably going to be some sort of blob with an amount of limbs or tentacles and some form of locomotion, as well as something recognisable as a head.

So it would probably be about as fuckable to us as an intelligent chimp that can speak perfect English, and chances are its instincts towards us would be similar. But hey, if our societies mingled for long enough, edge cases of interspecies romance could become common enough to be accepted. And there would definitely be porn, at least on our side, almost immediately.

it makes fine sense.
Octopuses and other mollusks get by fine

Not that anon but Dolphins are as intelligent if not more intelligent that chimps and the only thing holding them back is the lack of limbs
One has to remember that a "limb" can be any prehensile appendage.
maybe one species uses their tongue as graspers
maybe it uses its tail as the grasper, or its mouth
maybe one species uses their vagina and penis to grab and manipulate things.
I think thats actually where dolphins may be going.

Aliens have propably observed us already without us knowing it.

Think about it: we have ways to observe animals without them noticing it. If you walk into a forest and try to look at animals, they would run away. But if you set up a camera in a forest, most animals won't notice it. You can hook the camera on some wireless network and observe the animals from your home without them ever knowing There are also ways to completely fool animals' senses: put some bee pheromone on your hand and bees will flock to it, thinking it's a queen. There is of beetle species that became endangered because males were keep trying to bang beer bottles that had the same textures as them.

So if there are civilizations much more advanced than us, they are probably observing us in similar ways. Either they have technology to remotely observe us (they might not even have to physically send some camera or whatever here) or to fool our senses and blend into Earth's creatures.

As for why they don't try to contact us: it's probably cheaper to just remotely view us. It also might be impossible. Or that to them, we are on the same level as ants from our perspective.

perhaps they evolved as a consciousness or a realm jumper or something not mechanically anchored to the rules of our part of the valley

If the Earth were ever visited by an alien, it would most likely be in the form of a "Von Neumann probe": a self-replicating machine designed for space exploration. This machine could either be benevolent or hostile. It all depends on the intentions of the creator. The probes could be designed to "uplift" less advanced species, wipe them out, or merely study them.

What about trading for unique stones like lapis lazuli or things like spices and fruits.

Maybe they really like organic coffee or maybe they want to sell us something.
>>
>>1653294
why not create intelligence through ionisation pulses? comm systems, why would technology evolve along this linear mechanical line when there are other options out there, and how far does the human relay network extend out from earth anyway? would alians be aware of this, would they bother to bypass it, would the first instance be a seed that bypasses all survileance tech and just in a blip implodes our part of the universe in an instant, wiped?

They would have mercy of us if they see that we can control ourselves having interplanetary technology and massive destruction weapons.

There might be intelligent live completely void of curiosity, although I assume it would be rare for them to advance much (let alone develop interstellar space travel) if they lack curiosity.

>implying we wont find shit like this
>>
>>1652904

Well, think about what humans would do in the same situation; i.e. what we're doing now.

We're basically just sending shit out looking for literally anything, and if we find signs of life it would immediately intrigue us and prompt us to find out more, simply out of pure curiosity and the desire to learn. Assuming they're sentient, I see no reason to think it wouldn't be the same for an extraterrestrial species. Maybe they're just looking for kindred spirits like we are.

Of course that's no prediction of what the result would be if we actually did come into contact, but I feel like that would be the primary driving force: the search for answers. Hell, that's the primary reason humanity does anything at all. If another species becomes sentient I would think their drive would be the same.
>>
>>1656960
>Well, think about what humans would do in the same situation; i.e. what we're doing now.
We would exploit their natural and labor resources while claiming to protect their 'native rights and self-determination', and send 'gifts' (funds). Moreover, under such basis all the great powers would compete against each others and turning them into a mess of failed society. Congrats, they have now joined the global human society.
