This aint no paleo-diet huckstery. But, I got to wondering. How did Americans eat in the 1950's? What did they eat? I'm interested to know how/why it was different from how it is today.
Don't tell me, that would be rude, for me to come and ask for that. But, what should I look into? Just cookbooks and magazines from the time, or what?

Processed foods were new on the market (on a mass scale) and were quite in vogue then. Frozen dinners, jello, all kinds of instant mixes, preserved foods, etc. This was the first decade of 'plenty' after the Great Depression and the war years. People did not have sophisticated tastes, and then suddenly they could buy whatever they wanted, so they bought what they always wanted to in shittier times. So canned ravioli and jello were like the most amazing fucking thing, the novelty of it all.
