We have no idea to be honest. While there are some similar patterns in all killings, that's far from concluded whether they were commited by the same person. Whitechapel was a slum with lots of violence and killings. It could as well have been disjointed outbursts that were connected together by the press.

Oh, and the so called "Jack the Ripper letters" have been either proven or substantiated to be made by various individuals uninvolved in the crimes, like journalists themselves.

This. There similarities between the "canonical" ripper cases, but they were that different from some crimes not to attributed to him, and some of the ripper crimes have weird inconsistencies. One of the main reasons they were grouped together was because the letters that were sent to newspapers, which many people know think are largely fakes.

So, they could have been the work of one person, but it's hard to tell exactly how many people he killed and how many contemporary murders were just random violence or the work of copycats.
