>Dunno why. I just can't do it.
Because most movies, even those in this thread are complete and utter shit.

Movies are a visual medium used to tell a story yet all movies have followed a boring route of basic open exposition you wouldn't even find in a book. In short, you only have seen shit movies, which is the case with most people because pretty much every movie out there is shit.

In an over-saturated market you really cannot expect anything else. ALso anything from Hollywood relating to WWII can pretty much be put straight into the bin.

I watched a few over the last few days:

>We were soldiers
A movie on one of the first engagements between US and communist forces in Vietnam in 1965.Quite a well acted and intense film, showed respect to the Vietnamese, a little heavy handed on racism

7/10

>The 9th Company
A movie on hill 3234 during the Soviet war in afghanistan. Extremely inaccurate, it is like a poor man's full metal jacket with 1/2 the quality and 10x the CYKA BYLAT. Still, reasonably entertaining, especially if you're a little buzzed while you're watching it.

4.5/10

>1944
A movie about Estonia in 1944, following Estonian SS and red army soldiers. I don't speak Estonian, but you can tell that the actors are good, they nail the body language. Incredible battle scenes, especially when you realise it was on a €2 million budget. Let down a bit by how it is very nationalistic and portrays the Soviets as cartoonishly evil while Nazi hate is far more subtle.

8/10

>Zulu

Classic about the battle of Rorke's Drift. Riverting. Really surprised me how they cast Michael Caine. The effects don't show too much age while the camera quality does. I found a few characters annoying although their screen time is kept to a minimum.

9/10

>>
>>1655224
Why is it a good movie, leaving out the event it portrays.

Tell me about the cinematography, the score the direction, tell me how the actors played off of one another.

You simply do not know what a good movie is. A good movie is not the events it's portraying, it's far from it.

For instance, you don't watch TOkyo Story to watch a melodramatic film about family drama. You watch Tokyo Story to see what Ozu can do with a camera, how he can create emotion from nothing. You're a huge pleb.

Probably think Kubrick is GOAT.

This 1950s Disney movie has a surprisingly accurate depiction of mid-19th century railroading in the US. Walt Disney and several members of his staff were hardcore railfans and had full-size working trains in their backyards.

Excalibur is probably the best medieval movie we're ever going to get, even though it's fantasy.

Some others I enjoy are Sink The Bismark, Alexander Nevsky (the old one is better than the new but the new one isn't horrendous, just ok), With Fire & Sword, Stara Basn, and though it isn't accurate I thought Revenant was fucking beautiful.

>>1650008
That related to The White Viking movies at all?

>>1647380
I think that's Ridley Scott's best film, better than Alien, even.

This movie was awesome. It really captured the feeling of camaraderie but also the seriousness of war. It was made in 1949 and is really accurate for the most part. A few of the actors had actually fought in World War II and the director was in World War I, so there was really a lot of care taken to portray soldiers realistically.

This isn't some pretentious /tv/ thread anon. Although at least on that board these three movies would be appreciated.
You don't get to decide shit. Das Boot is a fucking German masterpiece.

I founded boring exactly because it was realistic. The invasion of Danemark was very very quick and there were no real battles.
And also because the heroes are fighting a lost cause, you know they are gonna lose so there's no real emotion or suspense

fucking brilliant film, perfectly captured the essence of the battle. Along with this>>1648389, a solid 9/10
>>1648391
8/10 fucking massive extras and brilliant drill standards all the way throughout the film. Interesting how the film wasn't really biased either way. Did you know the extras making up the army were played by the Red Army?

My entry is Sharpe- the uniforms are brilliant, and the way the period is captured is, in my eyes spot on. Some things, though are a little bottlenecked by the budget, for example the siege of Badajoz was basically re-enacted by about half a battalion, and the way the chosen men fight isn't particularly accurate, and neither is the drill particularly
I love it though, as I really am interested in the period, and also the 95th and 5/60th

Outside of the big names, the rest of the actors were actual members of the 101st, of which many had served at Bastogne.

Well a lot. The village looks like a hunter-gatherer type of tribe. When Maya were huge agriculturists and viewed hunting more as a pastime. The village had not a single garden which each home cluster would have had, and no crops minus the big city (and for some reason were dumping corpses on it?). And they were utterly clueless about said city when the Maya area at the time of the Spaniards was still pretty densely populated. How they seemed to isolated as to not know of its existence when it was literally a day or two's walk away is beyond me. You couldn't walk even half a day's walk away without running into another community. And the exchange network of the time period would have assured they'd know where everything was. The raiding the village for sacrifices was also inaccurate. Those are mere commoners, nobles and warriors were preferred offerings for deities. They got the deities confused too, they invoked Kukulkan for the rain and sun, when those were two other deities Chaak and Kinich Ahau. All the time periods were convoluted, they set it during the Postclassic (Spanish arrival c.1500s), but the city seemed to evoke late classic feel when cities were under intense stress (c.800). I won't even go into the little details like the clothing which was atrocious and barely close to what they actually wore. It's sad cause given the budget they could've made something cool.

According to your logic it's neo nazi propaganda that soviet soldiers raped and killed tons of german civilians in 1945. On top of that don't act weak minded, although wouldn't be surprised at all if any of you trolls actually were. You already zombified yourself with nazi propaganda, so at the moment you're useful idiots.

Does anything else play on this theme of male camraderie, of the older generation raising the new to be virtuous and pick up the mantle?

I'm into that stuff. Sometimes I think somewhere there is a sort of German film taking place during Imperial Germany in Africa. Walter von Schekopp seems to be the quintessential German, don't you think?
