How would a Trotskyite Soviet Union looked and acted like?
It would collapse. But for start, it would be more liberal socially, more aggressive, internationalist, and economically pretty much same (Trotsky was totally for collectivization).
Real question is, how would USSR look like if Lenin lived longer, if there were no Stalin and Trotsky, and if they proceeded with NEP.
IMO, far better, especially in long term.
Something makes me believe modern communists would claim he got communism wrongly and that it would have been better if Stalin got power instead.

But would he have kept up forced collectivization if it remained unpopular?
NEP would be much better though.

Everyone agrees Stalin and Trotsky were both not Lenin.

I feel like it would have been less totalitarian.
He might have had to back track on some of the communist teachings and would probably create something along the lines of what would be a social democratic society.
That being said, there'd still be a sense of strong military pride within Russia, and I reckon he'd fare better against Hilter then Stalin did (he wouldn't have killed off his generals for starters)
Like a German occupied country

He would m8, Trotsky was no angel. Maybe he was not as paranoid and brutal as Stalin, but shit would still happen.
In any case, society like that causes hyenas to get power, not normal people. Just look at Stalin's associates for example.
USSR was fucked from the beginning, and especially with Lenin gone.
It was a futile idealistic project that devolved into state brutality, misguided policies, and purely material progress achieved at a terrible cost that could've been avoided.
After Stalin was gone things became more ''normal'', but that was just capitulation, and the beginning of slow death of Soviet-style socialism.
In the end, they turned out to be 100 times more brutal than Tsarist regime, the one they deposed.
RIP in pieces.

Yeah, but they also ended up being about 100 times better as an empire too.

kek balks

>mfw in an alternate timeline an exiled Stalin hiding in Canada and still writing about how much Trotsky sucks gets killed via mallet-to-the-head by a Trotskyite assassin.

They were more powerful, sure, but it came at awful cost.
Russia would become powerful too, all indicators showed that.
