What was the relationship between the Soviets and the allies after WWII leading up to the cold-war?
I always found it strange that two nations who were extremely instrumental in ending a war together were fighting each other 2 years later. Were the dropping of the nukes used as a way to tame the soviets as the Americans could see what was coming?
pic semi-related.

>implying the Cold War didn't begin in 1945
Nothing happened after the war, the alliance was one of convenience.

Very very tense. Like immediately afterward. Operation unthinkable, look it up. I personally want an alternate history movie made about it.

Yes. Japan was already ready to surrender before the nukes were dropped. Japan was trying to negotiate a peace thru the Soviet Union, thinking they would get the best deal with them. But the Soviets were refusing.
Dropping the nukes was mostly a show of force to the USSR.

Things were tense even during the war. The Communists and Western powers gated each other and only allied to stop the Axis.

well russia was essentially owned to american debt like american debt today is owned to china, just need china to start renting siberia and the circle is complete!

It was listed as "It's complicated".
Complete shit. They sent men to kill eachother in ww1 and were killing eachothers spies during ww2. There was no point during ww2 where they actually liked eachother.

Soviets were already on everyones shitlist before ww2 started. Similar to Hitler nobody just wanted to do anything about them.

Bad. Some us generals actually wanted to attack the Soviets immediately after the war. We should have done it too when we had nukes
