This guy actually tried to pull a Bonaparte a second time decades later, how the hell did the second republic let this happen?
France was a fucking nationalist mess in the 19th century.
He did a good job though, if it wasn't for those meddling Prussians.

Louis-Napoleon spoke with a swiss accent, and because of that (not only but you get the point), many people of the right wing ("parti de l'ordre") thought he would be easy to manipulate. He plays his cards really well. He had written a book about the poors, gaining their sympathy. Slowly he distanced himself from the parti de l'ordre and their unpopular measures, and appointed his friends at the right places. His coup d'état was very well organized, despite some resistance in the rest of France.

Napoleon the Lesser's coup was just for personal power as he had no vision and made nothing out of France.
> Napoleon Bonaparte
> Napoleon III

What about Paris?

The son of Napoléon. He was very young, Napoléon abdicated in his favor, but he never really ruled. He died young in Austria.
