Had the Duchy of Burgundy not fallen, could the Thirty Years War have been prevented?
Also, Burgundy thread

They Duchy never really fell, it was just not a single sovereign duchy.
Either way, no, it may well have been worse with another power at play.

Well, the splitting of lands in that region between Habsburgs after Charles the Bold's death was certainly not good for European relations.
Bump for Burgundy.
Binding Burgundian Bump
I think the reformation would have torn Burgundy apart anyway because of the future protestant dutch population in the north and presumably catholic burgundian population in the capitol region.

>tfw no powerful Burgundian bumper country between France and Germany
Why would Burgundy being around prevent the 30 years war?
>>1606351
best thing that ever happened
>>1606351
If it didn't fall then the Valois dukes of Burgundy would inherit France once elder Valois lines die out.
Say hello to gigantic France that dominates Europe. And no strong Habsburgs this time to contain her.

The war was going on for a long time already

The Dutch may not have gone Protestant if Burgundy didn't die

We wrecked them. That's what you get when you burn Jeanne.

I guess burning was a bit extreme, but she was nothing special in the first place.
