/his/ not sure if I'm imagining it or do nations accused of more "atrocities" seem to have way cooler national music. I understand that what sounds good or "cool" is super subjective, but I just think that you can basically rank national anthems and nations which have caused the most suffering and the lists would be almost identical
For example I think soviet songs are just so fucking cool
And the U.s.a. Has some cool ass songs
Rule Brittania and God save the Queen are great pieces of music and the one thing these nations have in common are that they're national anthems and music are boss and that they're all accused of being "bad" at one point or another
But then when you think of nations with no real history of ever being "bad" such as say Sweden or Canada or Australia, they're national anthems and other national music are boring and uninspiring. I don't get it
Does anyone else see these patterns??

nation statism is embarressing
Sweden has a lot of history tho I agree their national anthem is really boring. Anyway the nation's that do "bad" things sometimes need a way to justify it or motivate people to fight for them. The Soviet anthem for example is really powerful as it basically tells the tale of the nation. The red army choir often focuses on powerful propaganda (red army is the strongest is the best example, paints victorious Soviet soldiers fighting the "evil" white Army)

Nazi Germany, the USSR and the PRC have some of the best music despite being mass genociders.
I'm Christian and conservative but something about the hymn of the USSR makes me want to build socialism in one country comrades!

I like the third and fourth verse but not the first two
Great atrocities can only be committed by a people with great spirit.
It's also more interesting to listen to fascists than to some left-leaning-but-not-really, centrist sociology professor. What sounds cooler? "Everyone should be allowed to live life as they please as long as they don't hurt others" or "The blood of the weak must be spilt so that the blossom of superior people may thrive in the sanguine puddle"?
That, too, is the reason why poets, for example, are whacko as fuck. It comes with a great hunger for life, and being interesting comes with that hunger.

Exactly my point

I'm not arguing it doesn't have history
But I don't think Sweden has ever been the villains of history.

I feel like this guy is onto something
My thoughts were maybe it was some psychological thing on my part to associate the music of nations accused of genocide with feelings of awe and terror cause I deep down think of these things when I hear there anthems but idk

Anyone commited great atrocities and everyone is capable to do so. A people who refuses to go this way and fights against this is truly blessed with a great spirit.

that pic is a really great piece of satire

>The blood of the weak must be spilt so that the blossom of superior people may thrive in the sanguine puddle
my name is Eugene, welcome to my NRx blog.
I want to go off topic for a bit and say Austro-Hungaria gets shit on for failing because it was multicultural state. The Nationalist states nearby or after it didn't do much better, like Germany ((Didn't even last 50 years before it lost all lands without a German majority)) or Yugoslavia ((State funded on Slavic Nationalism that fell together due to civil war between nationalists when the strong leader disappeared))
